It's nice when you fulfill one of your "holy grail" comic desires. I've mentioned before how in the 70's I was a big fan of the Legion of Super-Heroes, and had sent away for an issue of DC's fanzine, Amazing World of DC Comics #9 which was the "all-Legion" issue. Unfortunately, a few years later I had to move out of the family home in a hurry due to family issues and while I managed to take my comics with me, this, along with a couple of treasury size comics, was accidentally left behind and lost to the years.
I've tried many times looking online to replace it, but could never find it running less than $50 (frequently over $100), which I couldn't justify just to recapture a lost bit of my youth. But this weekend I finally won a somewhat worn copy from Ebay for $6.30 with free shipping. From the pictures it looks like the back cover has the worst wear, but I'll see for sure when it gets here. Here's the auction: Amazing World of DC Comics Legion auction

I had to laugh at the juxtaposition there..."So, right after church I ran out and bought a bunch of comics about pagan deities..." Make sense if he went to the church of Thor... Some people do exactly that. From www.asatru.org/aboutasatru.php : "What About These Gods and Goddesses? Are They Real? Yes, they are real. However, just as most Christians do not think their God is really an old bearded figure sitting on a golden chair in heaven, we do not believe Thor (for example) is actually a muscular, man-shaped entity carrying a big hammer. There is a real Thor, but we approach an understanding of him through this particular mental picture." I've met a fair number of neo-pagans through the tears in various circles I have traveled through. -M

Just got back from Boston Comic Con. As usual, I didn't find much of what I was looking for and instead came back with apile of random other junk instead.
I didn't pay more than a dollar for anything. Here's what I ended up with.

New Mutants #45 Lazarus #1 Magnus: Robot Fighter #5-7 - first Rai! Missing the trading cards, but I still think I got a steal The Nam #18-22 Astro City #1/2 - can't have too many of these, I like to give them to people Conan the Barbarian #29 Giant-Size Conan #3 Archie #270, 368 Archie at Riverdale High #6 Pep #351 Betty and Veronica #280

The Tampa Bay Comic Con is this weekend. I went today -- and I could not get over how high the comics were priced. (Of course when it was a comic that I already owned and the price was high, I was happy. When it was a comic that I was interested in buying, then it bummed me out. Funny how that works.) But I was able to make a good deal -- and I took it. Here is Amazing Spider-Man #4: It was marked $595 and when I showed the dealer that it goes for $450 on the GPA site -- he, much to my amazement, lowered the price to $450. I only need two issues of Amazing Spider-Man now -- 1 & 3. I have all of the annuals. Pinch me, Tom

Here is Amazing Spider-Man #4. . .I only need two issues of Amazing Spider-Man now -- 1 & 3. I have all of the annuals. That's one of the best and most memorable of the multi-panel covers that Timely/Atlas/Marvel ever produced! It's a truly beautiful piece and you are correct in trumpeting its arrival. A full run of ASM is a glorious and worthy achievement. I wish you the best of luck with those elusive final two!

Just moved last week and there was a guy next to my new place selling all of his collection. I got there a bit late and saw people leaving with a ton of comics in their hands, but I still got amazing stuff, all of it for 110$ (everything 1$ except where noted) :
Hawkeye Volume 4 - 1-22 + Annual #1 12$ for all Marvel Premiere #19,20,23,25 (Iron Fist) Iron Fist #4,5,7,9,11 Amazing Spider-Man #284 Fantastic Four #90,124,131,140,142,145,147,153,155,156,158-163 Avengers #113,120,141,146,151,152,153,154,158,160,162,163 Nova (Volume 1) #3-7,9-19,22 Daredevil (Volume 2) #3,4,5, 36,61,62,64,65,69,70,73-75,77,80,81,503,505,506,508,509 (3$ each for #3,4,5) Daredevil (Volume 1) #14,20,21,35,44,46,47,48,,51,52,53,54,57,101,156,173,180 (#57 was 5$) Uncanny X-Men #160,167
He also has a Daredevil #2, at 70$, and I would like to have it, but with the move and the renovation we have to do in the new house, I couldn't really justify buying it...
Oh Yeah, and it's in Canadian dollar, which is only 83$ US!
