I thought Morbius was an odd choice but I've literally never even heard of this villain.

This is a joke, right?
...
In that case, the powers that be at Sony have lost their damned minds.
Cei-U! I summon the farce in the making!

Hadn’t heard of him until today.
Obviously, Sony and WB are different entities, but what a world, where Superman hasn’t had a solo film since 2013, yet this character is gonna get a movie. I don’t get it at all.

You know, not to be a debbie downer but it literally just feels like Sony is doing everything it can to hold onto the Spider-Man license to prevent Marvel from getting it back

I was about to say that this character must have come along after I stopped following Marvel comics but then I saw that 35¢ price tag and realised that it came out in the late 1970s, when I was still going strong as a Marvel reader. Looking at the cover gallery for the Spectacular Spider-Man, I must have given up on the series after the first issue - I assume because the creative team(s) didn't appeal to me. Bad distribution might have played a part as well, because I'm sure I would have bought the Moon Knight issues if I had seen them on the stands at the time. Anyway, yes, seems like a weird choice, but I imagine that to the film-makers a lot of these more obscure characters might feel to them much the same as the Guardians, who weren't well-known either outside a certain audience of 1970s Marvel Comics fans. Maybe they think they have the next Luke Cage on their hands or something.
have they done the dazzler yet? Another obscure pop-music-based character.

My gut tells me they didn't put out a call for Hypno-Hustler pitches or green light and look for a creator to attach to a Hypno-Hustler project, but rather reached out to people like Glover, who is a hot commodity in Tinseltown, and invited them to pitch concepts from the Spider-Man catalog they owned. I would guess the impetus for Hypno-Hustler came from Glover and not Sony. Maybe there is some nostalgia connection to the character or the disco era for Glover, and the chance to develop a villain of color in either a period piece or a contemporary setting where Glover can explore some thematic ground with the cover of a super-hero movie. But that's pure speculation on my part.

I hope this means that there could be a co-starring shot for Dazzler.

I thought Morbius was an odd choice but I've literally never even heard of this villain. wouldn't surprise me if this book is going nuts on ebay! -M A copy of this issue sold for over $200 yesterday on eBay. At least three or four others sold for at least $75, and a bunch of them sold for at least $45. What frightens me even more is that there were actually TWO slabbed 8.5 versions that sold. Who the heck slabbed the first appearance of Hypno-Hustler without any prior knowledge that this announcement was coming? We are truly living in the darkest timeline.
