6. Harley & Ivy
Batman & Robin Adventures #8, DC, 1996 It's just cute how they're such good friends. They first teamed up in the animated series. Not certain of the first comic team-up. This seemed like a good guess. You'll see them again shortly....

6. The Joker & The Red SkullHonestly, this is a weird choice. As a general rule I dislike inter-company team-ups. And, while The Joker was once one of my favorite super-villains, that was a LONG time ago and if I never saw him again it would be too soon. And I've never been the biggest John Byrne fan. But...the Batman & Captain America book was just damn fun. And I liked the way the Joker and Red Skull team-up played out. In particular the fact that even the Joker isn't crazy enough to team up with a Nazi.

I always loved that line about being crazy but still American, it reminded me of the climax of the Rocketeer where the Italian Mobsters suddenly become heroes as soon as Sinclair landed his squad of Nazi soldiers, "We may be crooks but we're still American!" I wonder where the first appearance of that kind of turn around happened?

Still catching up...
6. The Sinister Six
Another group that we've seen already this year. Spider-Man Annual #1 was really, really good. I didn't get it when it was first published, and I'm not sure if I first saw the story in Annual #6 or in the first treasury-size Marvel Special Edition. But I sure loved seeing those Ditko pages in the large treasury size.

Hordes of escaped killers roam the nation looking for revenge, led by evil ganglords. (Sounds like a Fox News Alert, now that I think about it.) I haven't read it in eons. Was there also a "border crisis?"

I'm catching up. The Injustice Society of the World - These folks were on my initial list. Hell I could have put two or three iterations on my list. But I didn't. Because I knew they'd show up anyway. And they were here twice. I'm sneaky like that. Secret Society of Super-Villains (Ultra-Humanite Team) - I think we've seen this iteration before. But I can't be arsed to check. But I like them. Because...Earth-2. Blob and Unus the Untouchable - This feels like the physics equivalent of a bar exam question. The Legion of the unliving - That Zemo is always in to some shit. Don't hassle the dead, boy. They have eeerie powers. Injustice, Unlimited - I really like this choice in theory. I loved Infinity Inc. But Crisis pretty much gutted it. I haven't read these books since I first bought them. And I fear they would not hold up. So I choose not to re-read them. Megavolt, Quackerjack, Bushroot and the Liquidator - I never watched more than one or two episodes of Darkwing Duck. And no comics. But fun choice. The Decepticons - Transformers came way after my time. Both as a toy and as a funnybook. But I have to think you just don't trust anyone whose root name is deception. Luthor and Brainiac - Sinister Syndicate - I was pretty well done with Marvel by this time. So I've never seen this group as a group. That Rhino suit looks awful. Zorak, Brak, Lurker, Mettalus, the Creature King, all united by the Sinister Spectre - I don't feel quite as bad about this one as I did about Guns of the Dragon. But almost. Sigh. I love this. Harley & Ivy - I thought about Harley & Ivy. They did not and would not make my list. But I thought about them.

6. Turk and Grotto The long suffering incompetent duo that first showed in Daredevil 69 ( holy cow, THAT I didnt know, thanks uncle google)well maybe Turk did. They always stuck with me, like they deserved a break, that DD was just a bully, hard workin stiffs like them had ta earn buck some way or other. My first encounter was around 158 - 160 or so, where Turk was working for Mr Slaughter, and was it Roger McKenzie writing???

Yep, the all-too-often overlooked Roger McKenzie wrote the initial dozen or so issues of what's called "Frank Miller's 1st run on DD" and did a good job of it. Good choice, by the way, that's also where I first saw Turk.

6. Triumvirate of Terror6. The Super-Villain Baseball Squad
DC Super-Stars #10 I was going to use these guys later in the countdown, but since they've already appeared on another list, I'm going to slot them in here and rearrange things. The best part about this story is the box score. There's a whole page giving a text play-by-play complete with box score. It's great.

6. ZODIAC II The new android Zodiac first appeared having been organized by the Avengers’ then-renegade member, Quicksilver, although the exact details of Quicksilver’s recruitment remains unrevealed. Quicksilver, who was then temporarily insane, ordered the Zodiac to defeat the Avengers in revenge for imagined wrongs. However, the Avengers defeated them all before escaping to regroup. Most of the androids were placed in federal custody. Members: Aquarius, Aries, Cancer, Capricorn, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Pisces, Sagittarius, Taurus, Virgo, Leo. I wonder if you could get away with adding Quicksilver as one of the villains.
