6. The New Masters of Evil - Avengers #54-55
I get such a kick out of the fact that the invitations to join this select club were evidently sent through the mail; and I love the Black Knight's repartee with the Crimson Cowl here.
It's not a terribly original or imaginative choice, I know. The villains--a very powerful line-up--defeated the Avengers in the first issue; but of course in the second issue, the tables were turned and our heroes are triumphant. Pretty formulaic--but that art! Buscema inked by Georges Tuska (#54) and Klein (#55) made me appreciate the story more; Ultron and the other villains looked very fearsome and grotesque. Storywise, some nice touches were the Cowl reveals in these issues; the mistaking of the new Black Knight for the old BK; and Jarvis receiving some screen time.
