Any suggestions on. Best inexpensive( current market of course) classic comic( to bid on or buy ? Just curious been spending too much lately. well, before I can make a suggestion, I have questions-what do you consider inexpensive? and what do you consider classic? follow ups include-are you interested in just super-heroes or stuff outside Marvel & DC? Also, what grades are you willing to buy-low grade stuff is lot less expensive, bit some folks only want high grade. I can recommend lots of things I consider inexpensive classics, but you might not thing they are inexpensive or classic! -M

To be a little more specific I'm working on completing Amazing Spiderman 1-400, Xmen 1-300 and Avengers 1-300 FF 1-400 FN and higher.

What mrp said. Also, why do you want them? To read? As investment? To "build the collection"? To expand your knowledge of comics? Simple guideline: get what you enjoy.

Everyone knows those runs and what the key books are, so there's very little that is overlooked. I would say if you haven't completed the later portions of those runs from the 90s, get those done while they are still cheap fodder. Nostalgia cycles are turning towards the 90s (thus heat on Spawn and other 90s books) as kids of the 90s are reaching "old collector curmudgeon" age levels and seeking out the comics of their childhood meaning there is more demand for that stuff now than previously. It may not affect prices yet, but it may affect availability first, as those books get picked up out of dollar bins and such, but it may also start affecting prices on places like ebay as more people bid on them. Lonestar is no longer a place to get cheap filler as $2.50 is pretty much their minimum price on any book not on sale or featured in their $1 weekly sale, and with the current market being so key focused, if you are collecting runs, now is the time to knock off all the less expensive filler issues that they are ignoring. But as MDG says, buy what you enjoy (which I will add to enjoy what you buy). As a side note, none of the book I would have recommended would have included books from those runs. -M

There are some great stories and some great art that's a bit undervalued in today's cover and 1st appearance centered market.
In terms of cheap "keys," though. I guess Avengers #62 (1st M'Baku) #83 (1st Valkyrie) and #112 (1st Mantis) all seem pretty affordable.
I also think X-Men #184 (1st Forge) is a really cheap buy. #244 (1st Jubilee) and #282 (1st Bishop) are both affordable as well.

It's also a question of timing...
Not too long ago, it was easy to find Black Panther #1, She-Hulk #1 and Spider-Woman #1, all bronze age goodness, in bargain bins for less than $5 each. I even got Spider-Woman #1 from Mile High Comics in a gimmick sale around 2009-10 for $3.
But now? Cry.
