looks like: Scooby Doo! Where Are You? #121 Avengers War Across Time #4 Scarlet Witch #4 Frank Frazetta's Death Dealer #11 Spider-Man #7 Koshchei in Hell #4 and a couple of the Alex Ross Timeless villain variants. and I agree with DubipR about Spider-Man I was excited to get a Bagley Spidey book, but it's been so meh, this may be it for me. I want to see what the next arc looks like (and if Bagley stays). -M

Avengers War Across Time #4 How has this been? My friend recommended this to me. Just seems weird that Paul Levitz is writing for Marvel....

Avengers War Across Time #4 How has this been? My friend recommended this to me. Just seems weird that Paul Levitz is writing for Marvel.... It's been ok. I've never been a big fan of Levitz's scripting, and it's been about what I expected. I usually really enjoy Davis' work, and usually advocate for artists to ink their own stuff. but I don't like Davis inking himself. It lacks some of the life he had under the pen and brush of the likes of Paul Neary or Mark Farmer. It hasn't been bad, but it falls further down my reading priority list with each issue. I'll finish off the series, but if I had known my level of enjoyment, I would have waited and read it on Unlimited. -M

Avengers War Across Time #4 How has this been? My friend recommended this to me. Just seems weird that Paul Levitz is writing for Marvel.... I like it quite a bit. My major problem with it is the modern-era decompression. This five-issue miniseries would have been two issues, maybe just one issue if it had been produced in the era in which it is set. But I like the characterizations. The Wasp especially. Sindri is a great choice for the villain. He’s being used in a way I would not have expected, but it’s perfectly in tune with the character’s Silver Age appearances. Kang seems a bit over-the-top. He’s almost a parody of the egotistical, authoritarian conqueror, and he kills nearly everyone who talks to him because of their “audacity.” But I’m not going to deduct any points because it’s hilarious, intentional or not.

Batman #134 Amazing Spider-Man #23 Scarlet Witch #4 Spider-Man #7 (Slott's becoming extremely boring these days on Spidey) This might be it for me on Batman, I love Zdarsky but this issue killed me. The decompression was bad enough, and the batman themed Amazo we got in the first arc was boring but this red mask character wanting to become the Joker because he saw him in some multiversal vision and then Batman beating Superman by rolling his eyes and growling was just so lame. I don't even know what the story is trying to say at this point.

Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent #2Written by Tom Taylor Art by Clayton Henry Summary: Val and Lois take Jon with them in their quest to stop Ultraman on another world and Jon gets a huge shock. Plot: With all the build up of Ultraman and his quest to kill every Superman that we got in the last issue I really didn't expect him to bite the bullet here. Not that I'm complaining about a plot moving along at quick pace, in fact my tastes definitely skew to enjoying shorter stories better, but it still shocked me to see that plot essentially end after a single issue. Sure, we're still getting a multiversal exploration and we now have a secondary plot of saving Val and Red Tornado Lois from the Phantom Zone but both of those are separate from Jon versus Ultraman which is something I fully expected to last for several issues. It was just such a refreshing plot twist and I'm excited to see where the story goes from here now that Jon is apparently on the Injustice planet. Art: Henry continued to do a great job of balancing the quiet moments with Jay and Jon with the high energy action scenes. Grade:8/10

Planet of the Apes #1Written by David F. Walker Art by Dave Wachter Summary:While ALZ-113 virus rampages across the globe, a group of people from the WHO attempt to protect apes in hope they have a cure. Plot: While I give credit to Walker for not simply retelling the events of the previous two Apes films, it ultimately does feel a little hamstrung by the fact that there are apparently plans for a third film. Like a lot of inter-quels it's stuck in limbo as it can't retread too much of the past or else risk boring the audience and yet it can't move too far forward without stepping on the toes of the yet to be produced future project...and so it ultimately pleases no one. There's some good character work here between UN soldier Tobon and her chimp compatriot but I'm not sure if it's enough to keep me reading. I feel like I would have enjoyed this comic a lot more if I had never seen the previous two films, but since I have I can't escape the feeling that I've seen it before. Art: Wachter's art is serviceable, especially in the scenes where he depicted snap shots from the previous films but he wasn't really given anything exciting to do here. Grade:6/10

Read of the week..
Hey Kids! Comics! vol. 3 #1
If you haven't been reading Howard Chaykin's opus about the comic industry you're truly missing out on a brilliant and satirical read. Chaykin has taken anecdotes from comic legends, comic hanger-ons and every legendary story about the people behind the history of funnybooks. You heard the stories, know or met some these people in your lifetime. Highly Recommended.

I’ll probably stop by over the weekend and see if they still have it. I liked the first two volumes a lot.

I’ll probably stop by over the weekend and see if they still have it. I liked the first two volumes a lot. I'm hoping there's a collected HC with all 3 volumes. Uncle Howard is probably the best, most honest storyteller about the history of comics. His knowledge is invaluable. If you haven't, go on YouTube and look up Chaykin interviews in the past 2/3 years, they're amazing listens/views.

Star Trek Deep Space Nine: The Dog of War #1Written by Mike Chen Art by Angel Hernandez Summary: After reclaiming DS9, Sisco and the crew get caught up in another of Quark's schemes; this time involving a Corgi and borg tech!? Plot: Just in time to celebrate the 30th anniversary of DS9 Mike Chen's Dog of War proves to be a great way to mark the occasion giving us a story that features all your favorite cast members, with comedy, drama and mystery against the back drop of the Dominion War. From the appearance of Vic Fontaine on the holodeck this issue takes place after "His Way" but before the season six finale as Jadzia Dax is still alive and well, which is a great place to be for a special celebrating the series as season 6 was definitely one of the strongest with its mix of long form war stories with the Dominion but a nice smattering of fun one offs too and this story about Quark brokering the sale of a pure bred Corgi to a mysterious buyer definitely feels like one of those breather episodes. Chen manages to give each cast member a small moment to shine, which is no small feat with DS9's large ensemble cast while also balancing the humor of a dog being a precious artifact and the intrigue of the borg technology against the back drop of the Dominion war which is even more impressive. I don't know where the rest of the story is going but I'm definitely excited to see more. Art:Angel Hernandez does a solid job with the art and produces some great visuals throughout the book that really nail the look of both the technology but the actors likeness as well. We got some cute imagery with Vic Fontaine surrounded by dogs on the Holodeck and various crew members walking it around the station but also some really dramatic imagery as Sisko is forced to come face to face with Borg technology. Grade: 9/10
