My younger daughter watched it the minute it dropped this morning and came running to show it to me because she was so excited. Kamala is one of her favorite Marvel characters, so seeing her on the big screen is going to be huge for her.
I’m cautiously optimistic, but first impression is pretty solid.

I'm in the minority that really liked the first film, but it looks like they are taking a page from Thor: Ragnarok and going more silly this time, and I'm all for it. This looks like a lot of fun. Hopefully, the anti-anything-even-mildly-resembling-feminism detractors won't be able to kill this one's success.

And I love the kid swapping places with the adult nod to a certain other Captain Marvel (as well as Rick Jones and the imposter).

There aren't just one, but three, icky girls in the movie that are there for something other than to be ogled. I'm sure it's blowing their tiny little incel chud minds.

I am embiggened by this trailer.

While I agree that this first trailer has some elements in it that seem a little silly (although Kamala’s reaction to Goose makes perfect sense in that she’s a teenager and has NEVER seen anything like that before), I was reading earlier this week that the movie has a more serious tone to it. I would bet that this will almost certainly deal with elements from Secret Invasion, but they can’t give away any of them without spoiling that show. I would anticipate the next trailer, coming after that show most likely, will reveal more of what they’re actually dealing with.

I like all girl hero teams. I also like damsel in distress stories. Pretty sure there is room for both, and I'm not bothered if some people prefer one over the other.
I'm just happy to see Monica in action, she was always one of my favorite characters.

Although I agree that Carol has an older claim to the title, Monica will always be "my" Captain Marvel when Mar-Vell or Billy Batson aren't around. I guess "Photon" isn't that bad a name either, since it more accurately describes her powers... but I'm still annoyed that Marvel took the C.M. name from her for mercantile reasons. Anyhoo, the trailer looks like fun. I really like the bemused "what the... " look on Carol's face. I don't understand the cold reception Brie Larson got after she was cast; I think she's a great Carol Danvers.

Has anyone seen it yet? First Marvel film I've been excited for since Shang Chi, but I don't have the time this weekend.

Has anyone seen it yet? First Marvel film I've been excited for since Shang Chi, but I don't have the time this weekend. I saw it. I enjoyed it so much. Like you, I thought the outrage among a certain segment of fandom after the first Captain Marvel movie was ridiculous. There was one line from the first movie that was annoying, but it was one line and Brie Larson is awesome. But if someone complains that The Marvels is too "woke", I can assure you they're stretching. It's a very organically told story where the three heroes are female. There is no beating over the head with lectures. But aside from any of that garbage, it's just a really good movie. I find the scripting to be significantly better than the recent Marvel films I've seen. The interplay between the main characters, particularly Carol and Monica, really worked well for me. I think it's good to see it ASAP to make sure the box office reflects its quality. But if you don't see it this weekend, I would advise avoiding social media. There's a mid-credits seen it would be very cool to be unspoiled about. They put something that feels like a credits scene before the credits, so the big teasers are actually right before the credits and then mid-credits. There's no scenes after all the credits that tells any story, just a bit of gag audio. Now, I'm someone who stays through the credits of every movie anyway.
