Green Lantern #1. Even though I love Star Trek and other space oriented stories I have never been a fan of space oriented super heroes. I think that is why I preferred Alan Scott and even Kyle over Hal's stories. Usually my favorite Hal stories had him on Earth. So I decided to give this new series a try. A recap page brings the reader up to date and then dives into why Hal is back and trying to get a job at Ferris Aircraft. I liked the pacing of the story and the concept to get me to keep reading. Plus a John Stewart back up.

Superman: Lost #3Written by Priest Art by Carlo Pagulayan Summary: Lost in the outskirts of the galaxy Superman hitches a ride with a pod of space dolphins in an attempt to find his way back home. Plot: Taken entirely on its own merits the adventure presented here by Priest of Superman helping a pod of space dolphins hoping to get home was incredibly entertaining. It had great action beats, a sense of whimsy and a great scene showcasing Superman's sense of virtue as he convinces a sentient planet not to harm the space dolphins which taken together was an absolute joy to read...but it's not just a one off but part three in a ten part story and in that vain it's once again disappointing as it does nothing to forward the narrative of Superman dealing with his lost time. Sure, it's a slight step towards how he got home but there's a lack of balance between that and the consequences faced by his absence. We got one scene with Lois throwing her laptop mid article but it's devoid of context, why is she in despair? What is Clark doing? We're nearly halfway through and we don't know what's going on or what implications the lost time has for Superman then we did after the first issue and that lack of momentum is frustrating. Art: Carlo continues to produce some really beautiful art. Not only are his characters clean and emotive but the intergalactic backgrounds are just stunning. And the space dolphins? That is some fantastic creature work, making you feel their intelligence but without humanizing them in any way. Grade:7/10

Spirit World #1Written by Alyssa Wong Art by Haining Summary: Batgirl has been trapped in the spirit world and to get her back spirit guide Xanthe enlists the help of John Constantine. Plot: If you've been jonesing for a book with that old school Vertigo vibe then roll up your sleeve and indulge in the latest book by Alyssa Wong. New and exciting world building? Check. Well developed characters? Check. A decided push against social boundaries? Check. And of course John Constantine. If you told me that this was some lost book that DC found in a box somewhere and decided to just dust it off and put it out I would believe you 100 per cent, because it has that fresh, inventive and experimental feel that we used to get with Vertigo during its heyday. I really love the deep dive into Eastern folklore with its parade of yokai, Jiangshi and hungry ghosts that delight the reader with each turn of the page. I think what really makes the book sing is the fact that both halves of the narrative work; the bit with Cass Cain trapped in the spirit world fighting of ghosts and hopping vampires is full of fun action and the relationship building between Xanthe and Constantine is interesting and the mystery of just who Xanthe is comes across as incredibly engaging. It looks to be a wild ride and I'm excited to see where it goes. Art: For me, as much as I love the plot the art by Haining is the real strong suit here. Haining really knows how to build a world visually with a ton tiny little details that keep things interesting. From photorealistic city streets in the rain to the dazzling cityscape of the Spirit World filled with its neon signs and ghastly spirits every panel is a winner. Grade:10/10

Hey, that pic on the front page... is that an alternate cover for something, or an actual new Gotham Academy Comic?

Still a great read, definitely one of my favorite Gotham Academy stories.

Definitely enjoyed Usagi/TMNT.. it's fun that its in the 'Senso' Timeline, and that it totally makes sense there. Stan Sakai just has a great sense of what works. The line where Leo asks if Jotaro is Usagi's son made me LOL.
Black Cloak #5 There's alot of stuff going on.. but I think the plot is all going to come together in the next (last?) issue.
Lord of the Jungle #5 I've really liked this series.. a story about an aged Tarzan paying off an old debt definitely is right up my alley. The story seems over, so not sure what the last issue will be, but we'll see I guess.
Animal Castle Vol. 2 #1 Miss B deals with the fallout of how the last series ended, and moves on to the next step of the revolution.. trying to come up with a new government. If you're the target audience for this (and I am!) it's great stuff. At times it seems a bit like a pol sci textbook, but that's OK, I have been known to read those for fun.
