I wasn’t interested in The Last Days of Lex Luthor. But then I saw it at the shop and noticed it was written by Mark Waid. I read the first few pages while I was standing there and decided to get it.
I decided to save it for last. So I have to read these first ...
Knight Terrors: Detective Comics #1 She-Hulk #15 X-Cellent #5

I loved Last Days of Lex Luthor, it really feels like a sequel to Birthright which is one of my favorite Superman stories of all time. It was really good! Yeah, Waid really nails the smugness of Luthor perfectly. I wasn't exactly pleased with the body count Lex added by killing the crew of the robot he stole as I prefer a Luthor who is harder to tie to the crimes he commits but that was a pretty small negative.

That was a big turn-off for me given the 'Superman will travel to the ends of the universe to save Luthor's life' premise of the series. Really? Luthor nearly kills an island full of people, does murder the crew of that robot, but Superman decides to turn Heaven and Earth upside down to save this man's life because there is no nobler calling for a hero than saving the life of a genocidal maniac? Still, it did have its moments. I liked Luthor using Superman's compulsion to try and save him against him by secretly broadcasting his decision live worldwide - "Hey everybody! Superman's trying to save my life! Me! Lex Luthor! What kind of sicko would do such a thing?! (but just between you and me, Superman - thank you!)"

Yeah, I wish it were set up subtler, like Luthor using a more annoying version of Jimmy's watch to "call" Superman to his secret lab to tell him his prognosis but that aside the characterization was great and I'm interested to see where it goes.
