Batman and Robin #1Written by Joshua Williamson Art by Simone Di Meo Summary: When Batman and Robin stop the White Rabbit from stealing a luxury zeppelin they uncover a deeper mystery invading Gotham. Plot: I've really been looking forward to getting Bruce and Damian back as Batman and Robin again and while this was far better than what is currently going on in Batman and Detective Comics that's a pretty low bar to hurdle. The action was good, the mystery around goons being genetically altered to become animals looks like it could be an interesting play on The Island of Dr. Moreau and while I enjoyed the banter between the duo while they were Batman and Robin was fun while they were simply father and son the dialog became weirdly stilted and unemotional which made it a boring read at times. Despite that hiccup it was still a decent enough read and I'll be sticking with it to see where it goes. Art: More a problem than the stilted dialog was the art in my mind, which is definitely a big issue as it's not likely to go away any time soon. It's not that Di Meo was horrible, the action was definitely smooth and fun to read but there was a plasticy look to it all that makes it look like you're watching action figures play out a comic rather than a depiction of actual people which gives it all an unreal feeling. It's not a complete deal breaker but it's definitely a down grade for me. Grade:6.5/10

World's Finest: Teen Titans #3Written by Mark Waid Art by Emanuela Lupacchino Summary: Things seem to be going great for the Titans when they show up to meet their fans at Titans-con but one fan takes things too far. Plot: In Titans #3 Waid continues his masterclass in what super hero comics should look like with an excellent mix of action, humor and excellent character moments. What I really loved about this issue was that this read a lot like a day in the life kind of story as the Titans attend a fan convention and the young heroes reactions to discovering their fame were just so perfectly done. Sure, there was the threat of "Toyboy", a sort of teen version of Toyman who uses magic to animate toys to fight the Titans while he attempts to woo Bumblebee but the character moments are where it really shines. And while each hero really gets their own time to shine my favorite scene was between Dick and Bruce as the discussed why it was a bad idea that the Titans were doing a public appearance and that he was glad that Dick didn't go...but where it really hit was at the end was that Dick did go to rescue his friends only for it to be revealed that he doesn't want to return to the Batcave at the end. Did Bruce blow up at Dick for going? Or is Dick just afraid of how Bruce might react when he returns and is trying to avoid the expected consequences? Either way it's a really compelling scene and I'm really excited to see how it plays out. If you're not reading this already( ::ahem:: shaxper) you're really missing out. Art: Emanuela Lupacchino’s art continues to have an excellent Silver Age feel to it that makes all the characters really pop on the page. My favorite part is that all the Titans look like their classic selves from the 70’s with only slight modernized tweaks to give them a more streamlined look. It's beautiful from start to finish. Grade:10/10

Werewolf by Night #1Written by Derek Landy Art by Fran Galen Summary:Werewolf by Night and Elsa Bloodstone rekindle an old flame while fighting a mad scientist and a horde of monsters in a haunted castle. Plot: If you found yourself smiling while reading the above summary but thought, "There's no way it could be that fun?" rest assured that it definitely is THAT good. Honestly, this is probably the best single issue I've read in a loong time. Now, with my love of monsters I may be more predisposed than some others but I'm not overselling it when I say that the entire issue is pretty damn great. You get plenty of werewolf-on-monster action,(he fights everything from shadow monsters to a giant creature of the black lagoon and even a lovecraftian tentacled creature), a large scale threat that makes sense to team up Russell and Bloodstone in order to defeat, and a perfect mix of humor, wit, action and horror. But surely there has to be some negative? No book can be that perfect can it? The answer? You're right, there is one glaring flaw...it's only a one shot. I mean, it's the perfect holiday bite of a book but it's criminal that this isn't the start of a run or at the very least a new Werewolf by Night mini series. Atleast it looks like there will be another Halloween themed special coming up though and I hope it's as good as this. I really am serious, if you haven't picked up a modern comic in a while try this one out. Art: I've read some criticism of Galen's art, calling it too whimsical to fit the book but honestly I think those people couldn't be more wrong. There's a real storybook like quality to the art that really fits the nostalgic feel of the book really well. Sure, there are no gross out scenes here but it has all the charm of the old Universal Horror flicks and those weren't full of gore either. Grade:12/10 Buy this now!

Nothing that I’m getting regularly came out this week, so I didn’t even go by the comic shop. But I noticed this on the solicitations and I was mildly curious. Your recommendation makes me want to try it out, especially since it’s a one shot. And I’ll be just a few blocks away from the comic shop for my job today. So I’m going to check it out.

Incredible Hulk continues to be interesting and I really like the horror tone it has...but it continues to move so god damned sloooow. We're four issues in now and know almost nothing more about the threat than we did at the start. All we know is that it's called the eldest, it's related to the green door...somehow...and it can control monsters and wants to capture or kill the Hulk for reasons still unknown. If this was the end of issue two and that's where things stood it could still be understandable but at the end of four it's feeling mighty thin. We're going to need some serious plot progression in the next issue or I'm going to seriously start to think about bowing out.

Just got home from vacation yesterday. Picked up last week's books. Liked all of them. Pretty good week. Batman & Robin was better than the other Batman titles. Nice set up with brief summary of Robin's recent title. Art was good. The coloring felt a little off to me. World's Finest: Teen Titans is superb. I love the original Titans. Green Lantern is really good. I love an earth bound Hal. I actually liked Incredible Hulk this month. The Man-Thing appearance was awesome. And Daredevil is off to a good start with the new creative team. Matt as a priest is a great idea.
