Birds of Prey #3Written by Kelly Thompson Art by Leonardo Romero Summary: With the help of King Shark the Birds make land fall on Themyscira while Ollie tries to stall Wonder Woman. Plot: Pacing continues to be sluggish here as Kelly Thompson just barely gets the team to their destination here but still hasn't revealed why the Amazon's captured Sinn or why they couldn't just call Wonder Woman for help. Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of great action here and I really loved the character scenes between Harley and Dinah and Barda and Batgirl but there was a distinct lack of forward momentum too and it's starting to drag down my enjoyment a bit. I feel like I'm saying this a lot lately, but it's just as true here: I don't need all the answers but there have to be some nuggets left for the readers to string us along and there just weren't enough here. Hopefully with Sin finally found and Wonder Woman engaging the team we'll see more development next issue, but if not I might be bowing out. Art: I think a good portion of my continued good will for this book comes down to Romero's stunningly cartooned art work. Because every page is just so delicious to see I'm willing to forgive some of the slugish pacing and give it the chance to develop a little further than I would if the artist were of a lesser quality.
Grade:7/10 (because it's a 5/5 on the art!)

She does play a small role again here, and with the way Sin was discovered I think Maps' role may end up becoming more important latter on but it's early to tell due to the slightly slow role-out of the plot.

G.O.D.S. #2 by Jonathan Hickman, Valerio Schiti and Marte Gracia Plot: A regular comic size this time, after the tripple-sized first issue. Two plot-lines running through this issue: The major plotline deals with Aiko, her group, the Centum, was badly hurt in the first issue and they are now ordered to replace their fallen comrades. Aiko finds a young student at Colombia University named Mia, who has magic talent and offers to share her knowledge with her (and at this point it's unclear whether Mia is intended to be a new recruit for the Centivars as in this issue it's revealed that the Centivars' "God" represents science, while Wynn is serving the representation of magic).
Meanwhile Wynn and Dr. Strange are figuring out where the Proto-Mage they fought in issue #1 came from and the trail leads to the Inbetweener. Art: I was not wowed by Schiti's artwork last time: it's not bad, but for a series like this I want some weirder art than we're getting. Everything so far fits the Ron Frenz rule that I think Brian Cronin once coined back on the old boards. Schiti does get to do a bit more in this issue, as Aiko and Amy visit a library that is visited by creatures from all kinds of dimensions, but still no real outstanding panel compositions. I think this is just for people who have read way too many comics. Newer readers will probably go that the art is fine and what am I complaining about? Writing: It's still mostly setup: this issue gives a bit more clearance on what forces Wynn and Aiko both represent, we get to a hint at the mastermind behind the events of the first issue, though that may be a fake lead of course. Not too much else this issue. For new readers: Still not something I'd recommend, but I want to find out more about our new characters. And next issue is apparently introducing another new character.
Probably a lot more to see on the European comic thread as there were a lot of new comics coming out over there including a new Asterix, a new Spirou par..., a new Redbeard, the final issue of Robillar, a new Jean van Hamme and one issue of a comic that has an appearance by ... me. But I'll have to find time to read all of that and write something up for them.

Grade:7/10 (because it's a 5/5 on the art!) I agree, this could have been 1/2 an issue. The bits with Harley (who I generally hate) have been really surprisingly good. And there was enough of Maps to make me happy. I am definitely curious where the story is going.

Yeah, for all my trepidation about Harley she's actually been really well written and I actually enjoy her being on the team even if she isn't a traditional member.
