I have a tentative twelve (the bad Italian version of The Dirty Dozen). ... I'd watch that movie.

I have a tentative twelve (the bad Italian version of The Dirty Dozen). I’m sure it will change numerous times in the next month. You might have to let Popeye go. Didn't they tell that to Terry Austin at one point?

Oh boy! Thank your niece for the great theme this year Kurt! This is going to take some time and careful reviewing. Alas a lot of the comics I like are creator owned books, which is going have me delve into series and runs I love. Cei-U!, would a series be eligible if the series didn't come out 30 years after the character's introduction? Example, Character A was introduced in the 1940s, been around as a supporting character and then didn't get his series until the 1970s? Does the spin-off need to within a time of their appearance?

Hey folks, stopping in for a visit for the holiday tradition. Interesting topic, going to take some thought as to what I might want to use.

Hey Cei-U! would a spin-off title of the same character count-for instance Savage Sword of Conan or King Conan spinning off of Conan the Barbarian or Spectacular Spider-Man spinning off of Amazing Spider-Man. I think I know the answer, but want to double check before I look elsewhere. -M

I have one in mind that I think will appear on a few lists - if it's eligible, which I'm not sure it is.

Okay, what about characters debuting in another title who were clearly being set up to get their own series from the getgo and were just appearing in another title in order to get a quick plug? New Warriors in Thor immediately comes to mind,or Dazzler in X-Men, or Suicide Squad in Legends, or nearly every character in the Valiant Universe. These were less organic spin-offs and more the kind of free publicity one might get from appearing on a talk show. In my mind, if the new series was already being planned/solicited prior to the first guest appearance, it shouldn't count. Sorry if this kills your plans to include Prophet, Icctrombone 😉😂 And what of the reverse: a title or one-shot created just to introduce upcoming titles? Iron Man & Sub-Mariner #1, for example. Do we count both of those ongoing features as spin-offs because of that promotional one-shot? Or would the fact that both characters had features prior to that disqualify them anyway? And what about a character like Longshot, who debuted in his own title, but who was clearly tied to the X-Men franchise? And I agree with Driver that alternative reality characters (or really any alternate versions of existing characters) are less spin-offs and more their own enormous can of worms. I could easily make a top twelve of just alternate takes on existing characters. Don't really need it cluttering up this already beautiful assignment.

I’m reading this as comic strips being unwelcome this year. Yes, the strips are sitting this one out.
Cei-U! Sorry, strip aficianados!
Ack! Strips are where my head went first!

I suspect that are very few characters after the 80’s that were organic the way you describe. I take it literally that if they appeared first in a place that wasn’t their book or story, it is eligible.

I'm having oral surgery this morning, gang, which means no typing for the rest of the day. I'll answer everyone's questions tomorrow, the day after at the latest.
Cei-U! I summon the novacaine!
