Well here we are, better late than never 12. NightwingMy favourite (non-Legion)DC character had probably starred in a couple of stories by the time he left behind his previous alter ego in the pages of The New Teen Titans. There are of course One Shots and minis and very long running series to follow, however the initial year or so as Nightwing in Titans was a high point of the book. As an aside, could the NEW Teen Titans be classified as a spinoff book? The NEW teen titans quite clearly being different to THE teen titans...[/spoiler]

I'm on vacation at the moment so I haven't had any time to post my selections yet, but I'm going to try to get some in when I can. 12. Red Sonja1st appearance: Conan the Barbarian #23 Choice solo run: Red Sonja vol. 3 (Marvel) #1-13 A lot has been said about Red Sonja. I'll just add that while I love the character, I haven't really loved any of her solo stories that I've read (which is all her Marvel runs). Her ridiculous costume doesn't help, and even the great Frank Thorne art in the 70s couldn't completely save some pretty uninspiring scripts. So my pick is her mid-80s run, which featured an all-female creative team, and a new costume that didn't look so stupid. I read these as a kid when they were coming out and really liked them a lot then.

Another "better late than never" entry:
#12: Lois Lane
For its illumination of the evolving changes in gender norms, and for decades of beautiful Kurt Schaffenberger art.

Welcome, ladies and gents, to the last-minute scramble version of my Classic Comics Christmas Countdown. I'm going to say up front that there are a whole mess of titles I would've and probably should have included, but didn't think of them until after I saw people had included them, so rather than crib off of other people's homework... here're mine. #12: NoMan (Tower Comics)Spinning off from 'THUNDER Agents' in his own solo series (which only lasted for two issues) is THUNDER's Invisible Agent, NoMan. I was always a sucker for the character, loved his weird, eclectic power-set (invisibility and body-transference) and was just a fool for THUNDER's combination of swinging 60's spy-fi and two-fisted Silver Age superhero action... but a big part of the charm is seeing the various characters interacting. By spinning characters off into solo series, you end up losing a bunch of that which is why this one doesn't come in much higher.
