Respect, Mr. Ayers! Thank you for all the fun and wonderment.

And... I think Dick was one of Kirby's best inkers. Great stuff.
Everybody always talks about Kirby's pencils looking sharp with Sinnott's inks, but I've always felt that Ayers deserves mad props too (and not just because he presumably inked a certain Fantastic Four #1, Volume One). We lost one of the first ever components of the modern Marvel Universe today...may thee RIP.

It's pretty well accepted at this point that George Klein inked FF #1 And that is a capital case of why it's nearly always dangerous to presume...although, I've always said 'presumably' about whether or not Ayers inked FF #1 because all sources I've known were unsure of the inker and saying it may have possibly been Ayers. Anyhoo, here's a nifty interview with Darlin' Dick...again, may thee RIP.

Although no records survive to confirm the credit, it's now generally accepted that George Klein inked Fantastic Four #1-2. Mark Evanier believes it and that's good enough for me. Ayers did, however, ink FF Annual #1, my all time favorite issue of that series. The Kirby/Ayers team are, for me, the definitive FF artists.

FF Annual 1 is such an awesome comic. Dick Ayers also did some work on the "Secret City" Kirbyverse comics at Topps in the 90s that I enjoyed. R.I.P.

That leaves just Joe Sinnott remaining of the Bullpenners of the early Sixties. Well, along with Ditko.

I summon the grievous oversight! Aside to paulie: I was only thinking artists, so I didn't so much forget Stan as consciously omit him.

Not only is Larry still alive, he's currently working on the Spider-Man daily comic strip with his brother Stan. Today's strip!

Stan occurred to me this morning while I was driving to work, but I didn't include him for the same reasons as Cei-U!
Good call on his brother Larry, though.

Someone on the SA-GA list came up with these as the remaining Marvel Age veterans:
Stan Lee, Larry Lieber, Stan Goldberg, Steve Ditko, Joe Sinnott and Flo Steinberg.
