The cartoon was every bit as good as Batman: The Animated Series in my mind and the runs by Bader(who wrote the Facsimile) and later by Beechen were both fantastic. Coincidentally, Batman Beyond began airing on January 10, 1999 on Kids' WB, so we discussed this on about the 25th Anniversary of the show. -M I was wondering why they chose to do a facsimile edition of this book but it certainly makes sense now.

Finished reading Ultimate Spider-Man #1 and really, really enjoyed it. I haven't read any of the other "new" Ultimate line but now I will have to go and check it out. It really feels like a completely different take, instead of just "what if Peter became Spidey in the 2000s". I haven't kept up with a Spider-Man title in years, but this could be the one. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it. It was certainly well written, and Peter Parker with a family is an interesting take...but as someone who really enjoyed the Ultimate Universe I just can't really shake the meaning of that word as it pertains to comics. Ultimate was meant to be a fresh start for new readers to jump on without having to know about or care about the continuity baggage that had built up since the character's inception, it was meant to be a distillation of everything that made the character great but put into a new direction...and this book isn't that. For this book to really hit you have to know just how different it is from what came before, and on top of that the whole Maker plot is a direct continuation of the continuity that was spawned by the old Ultimate Universe. So it's not really new reader friendly and despite a serious change in the status quo of continuity {Spoiler: Click to show}Peter now becomes Spider-Man as an adult with a wife and kids it isn't actually free from previous continuity. At the end of the day it's an interesting coda to the Ultimate Universe for someone who loved that continuity, but it's not something that lives up to the Ultimate name in my eyes. The characterization was really solid though, so I'll probably read on to see where things go.

Wasn't planning on going in this week, but found my my shop's roof sprung a leak in the heavy rains we had the past 2 days and a bookcase of DC trades was damaged, so decided to go pick up my stuff (and pick up some back issues) to help support their cause. Small week this week (which is why I decided to get some back issues too)... -M

Not to spoil anything but I was a tad disappointed by Usagi. I haven't had a chance to read anything I brought home yet, so we'll see. Usagi is a ride or die book for me, so an issue here or there that misses the mark or stumbles isn't a big deal for me. -M

Usagi is like pizza to me, even if it's only "just okay" it's still pretty darn delicious.

Action Comics #1061 Going into this issue I was not expecting to like it. I find the character of Bizarro annoying. However I like this concept of a new creative team every story arc. So what did I think of the issue? This maybe one of the few stories about Bizarro that I like. Him possessing magic and turning our earth into Bizarro world is a neat concept. Plus you had the awesome fight scene through the whole solar system. So yeah bring on part two!

Ultimate Spider-Man #1 I only got this because I miss the marriage. Yeah I still hate One More Day with a passion. I will support a story featuring the marriage. Anyway this was all set up and we never even saw Spider-Man except in silhouette in the last panel. But this was still a good first issue. I am on board for the first arc.

reading some of my non big 2 books....
Holy roller seems like it's going to be something... Andy Samberg seems to be having the artist draw him as the lead... and the early flashback parts definitely were riffing Stranger Things, which was fun. Seems like it's going to a bit political and a bit absurd, so should be a good time.
Fire and Ice continues to have really great fantasy art and not much plot... probably worth it for the art
Quest actually feels alot like Jonathan Luna's other series a read (Eternal Empire) but in a different setting. It's ok, but nothing to write home about.
