Just saw the very sad news that legendary comic book artist Ramona Fradon has passed at the age of 97. The announcement was released by her agent, Catskill Comics on their fb page...
She lived a long life and had an amazing and successful career in comics; even so, I was quite saddened when I saw the news.

My first reaction was "Awwww...."; but, then, 97 is a hell of a run and not something to really be sad about, other than we will miss her. She stayed pretty active in the business; almost right up to the end.

Wow, RIP to a legend, and definitely a run worth celebrating. She certainly deserves her own thread.

Co-creator of Metamorpho. One of the longest and most important artists on Aquaman. A 15 year run on Brenda Starr.
Absolutely a legend and a trailblazer.
R.I.P.

Sad news indeed, but she's moved on to greener pastures. Much has been written about Fradon, but i've always felt she was criminally underrated by some comic book historians, considering the gravity of her talent and on one of the medium's most important characters, along with co-creating Metamorpho.

So much of the irreverence and sheer fun that was the hallmark of Metamorpho was due to the joyful, exuberant art of Ramona Fradon. Couldn’t help but smile when you read those stories.
No one else could quite capture her style.

I mostly know of her work from Super Friends, but man, what a great series that was.

I first noticed her name on a 70s DC mystery story where the narrator POV switched between a brother and sister and the old man who lived next door. She did a great job of establishing how the characters saw each other and the changing viewpoints and expression. I saw her at a show where she was sharing a table with Marie Severin. While I was talking to her, Paul Levitz came by with his son who was probably 10 or 11. Ramona told the kid, "I's very nice to meet you. Tell your dad none of his editors know what they're doing."

When I was a kid I saw her name in the credits on Metamorpho and for some reason I thought her name was pronounced "fra-DON".
The first time I heard someone say "FRAY-dun" I thought "What?!?" and then, "Oh, of course..."

It would be great if Marvel paid tribute by finally printing the unpublished The Cat #5 featuring her pencils, but I know that's a pipe dream.
