I also want value for money, but it's hard to get with a lot of current books.
These 100 pages from Wal-Mart were great while they lasted....a $4.99 cover wasn't bad but I've picked up quite a number of them for closer to $3 each.
These days, if I'm getting a Hardcover with 200-300+ pages for the same price as a couple of new comics, I choose the former.

The chicks. I heard they dig guys who sit in their room reading comic books all day. That's why I got into reading them.

Escapism. With some pretty art and an engaging story. I also like my comics to look somewhat like the comics I grew up with in the 80s, and much prefer line art with flat colours than a highly rendered page.

Cheaper modern comics that kids can also enjoy would be nice, not for me but for the industry as a whole and for today's kids. The price in the EU and the UK for a single 20 page comic is about the same as a 400 page novel from a supermarket. The value isn't there, and the only comics kids will bother buying will be collections or manga.

It depends on which hat I'm wearing. As someone who gets paid to write about the history of comics, I want material--good, bad, or in between--that gives me something worth writing about, preferably outside my super-heroic comfort zone. As a fan, I want a well-drawn, exciting and/or funny story about interesting characters, period. As a collector, I want the most bang for my buck, which is why I prefer mid- to low-grade back issues and why my bookshelves are groaning with Essentials, Showcase Presents, and similar collections.
Cei-U! I summon the multiple motivations!

I still have a pull list, and while I don't go to the story every Wednesday or anything, I get the probably every 3 weeks or so. I'd say about 1/2 are traditional superheroes and the rest are other stuff.
Marvel and DC are not really what I want them to be anymore, so I stick to the characters and runs I like and ignore the rest.
I am getting closer to reading all the stuff I've accumulated over the years, once I do that I will definitely re-read more.

I'd like this baffling obsession with Omnibuses to end. How did that become a thing? Who wants to hold a massive lump of a book like that? Masterwork sized collections of classic comics, without diabolically awful colouring, at sensible prices, please!

I still get the occasional Omnibus when I get an exceedingly good deal. Like a huge discount in the region of 70% off cover price.
Who would pass this up if it was $30?

Is it true that that entire omnibus takes place in 2 hours because of decompressed storytelling?

I’m not sure omnibi should be an issue. If you don’t like the format don’t buy them. The vast majority of the stuff that comes out in that format is available in smaller sizes, particularly super-hero funnybooks, which are readily available in a bunch of sizes and formats. They aren’t my preferred format, but it’s great for art books and Sunday comics pages.

I have a Justice League one (1987-1996 series), and it takes pride of place on my shelf.

Only if you speed read.....I've never had that experience myself though.
