None of the above should be an option.

1. A series dedicated to Phase II - the second 5 year mission. 2. A series with Sulu as Captain, Chekov first officer, Chapel as Chief Medical Officer, Rand as Communications officer and new characters filling other positions. 3. Uhura as Captain of a diplomatic ship. Phase II would be a good one for me!

I think TMP... namely what happened BEFORE and AFTER what we see in the movie... The Enterprise changed, the uniforms changed - and then it changed all again before Wrath of Khan... all of the crew got older, Kirk was an Admiral, etc. IDW's YEAR FIVE series is pretty interesting, but covers the transition from TMP to Wrath of Khan too quickly, I think.

There’s a lot to explore there which I would find satisfying.

Just as an aside... I think most people would say that STII is the best of the movies. And I agree.... but for my money, I think STIII is the most rewatchable of the series. It's my comfort ST movie.
And for what it's worth... the whole lot of the six movies are better than any of the Next Gen or Kelvin timeline movies. Even IV.
I think my ultimate dream for AI is that one day, it will be capable of creating good NEW ST original crew movies, in the vein of these 6. But, I've seen Terminator, and I know ST movies are not its main focus.

My ultimate dream for AI as far as films are concerned is to “reimagine” Bond films with different actors. Let’s see Timothy Dalton in Doctor No or envision Roger Moore in No Time to Die.

And lest anyone judge the TMP era's ability to translate into comics based on the Marvel series... they were terribly hamstrung at the time, limited to only referencing what was actually seen in the movie itself. No call-backs to Original Series storylines or characters... just TMP or made up whole cloth. The assignment to work on the comics back in the day was seen as extremely undesirable, aside from a couple of creators, like Dave Cockrum. Not an ideal situation.
