The comics world lost an amazing talent way too young today. John Cassaday has passed at age 52.

I discovered Cassaday's art on Planetary, followed him ono stuff such as the Marvel Knight's Captain America book, Astonishing X-Men, and so many others. He brought a certain style and dynamism to whatever he did, fromStar Wars to the Lone Ranger. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on. Here are a few of my favorite covers by him...

That's very sad. Far too young. He was an extremely talented artist. Around the turn of the century he was one of my favourites, before I quit monthly comics. Just looking at the images above make me want to check out more of the work he did.

Edit: I just read his bibliography, and it reminded me of Je suis légion/I am Legion... I kept some track of what he was doing because I rated his art so highly and bought that book when it came out- one of less than half a dozen comics I've bought upon release in the last 23 years.

But he really shined on Planetary. Just the perfect artist for that book. Truly a terrible loss.

I liked Planetary but primarily thought of him in his work on Joss Whedon's "Astonishing X-Men," which I reviewed here. I have two of his original pages from that series. He and colorist Laura Martin worked very well together.
