I didn't bother with the last few Marvel productions, but I do like the MCU's Yelena, Red Guardian and Bucky.
I've never read Thunderbolts, so the fact that the characters aren't the same as in the comic does not bother me. The trailer suggests a fairly standard plot, but I could go for some straightforward superhero action without the words "quantum" or "multiverse" to accompany it!

This seems to have very little to do do with anything in the comics... certainly there's no connection to the original, or the later Hawkeye version. There were a couple versions that I skipped though.
I agree it looks like a straight Superhero action flick, which is nice.
I just don't really like most of the characters, so I may or may not see it.
Inicidently, who's the person with the blank white mask supposed to be?

I’ll see it with my daughters, because that is our thing to do. My younger one is a huge fan of both Bucky and Yelena (she has cosplayed as her at a couple of comic shows), and I could do with a simple superhero romp that ties into the MCU but isn’t TEH MOSTEST IMPRTNT MOVIE EVER…UNTIL TEH NEXT 1.

So it looks like they're doing a Thunderbolts movie with people who have nothing to do with the Thunderbolts comic, while using a plot from New Avengers/Dark Avengers without any real connection to those books? Do I have that right?

Not really, there have been like half a dozen different Thunderbolts comics. This does look to have elements of Osborn's Thunderbolts, which did include Yelena and Ghost as members, working as blackops group for Osborn. USAgent was involved in Luke Cage's Thunderbolts (as was Ghost), which was more a Suicide Squad operation. General "Thunderbolt" Ross ran a group following that version. Bucky Barnes was in the group following that one.
Red Guardian was in the latest version of the Thunderbolts, but that one was clearly inspired by the movie version having Bucky, USAgent, Yelena, Red Guardian and Contessa Valentine on the team (as well as Shang-Chi, Black Widow and Sharon Carter). So the only ones who have nothing to do with the team in comics are Taskmaster (who was leader of the Thunderbolts in the Avengers cartoon and the movie version of Taskmaster has ties to various members so kinda makes sense to include them.)

Ah, thanks. I only know of the Thuderbolts from their appearance in Secret Invasion and then when they became the Dark Avengers. The only one from the trailer I knew of, in connection with them, was Ghost, who I don't believe was actually a member back then. I think I've read a total of about two Marvel comics in the last 14 years so I never heard of Yelena before the movies. And the only Red Guardian I know was a heroine from the Defenders in the 1970s. Since I've never seen a Marvel film in the theater and don't have Disney streaming, I'll wait a couple of years to see it on TV where I can hate it for free.

Some of the first few movies are quite good, and probably on at least basic cable pretty regularly. Since the end of the big Avengers/Thanos arc it's been pretty hit or (mostly) miss.
MY Thunderbolts are the team lead by Baron Zemo and taken over by Hawkeye in the 1st 75 issues or so from the 90s. The Fight Club version, the Dark Norman Osbourne version, the Suicide Squad clone version all did nothing for me. I didn't read the one with Bucky. Then the last one that was almost a spoof that had Hawkeye and (Sort of) Mayor Cage involved was fun, I wouldn't have minded that series continuing.

I've seen a lot of them on cable and the only ones I've liked were the Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy movies which, perhaps not coincidentally, were the ones I was least familiar with as comics. So I could watch them without getting annoyed over how different they were than the comic books I remember. Honestly though, I find most of the MCU movies just not very good films.

What passes for writing in most of the MCU films has never impressed me, but the majority have at least been entertaining enough. It looks like it could be that. It also looks like it could be pointless video game fighting, without more of a context. At this point, this stuff is mostly, I'll watch it if I catch it online or tv, but not paying theater prices for it. It takes a very special film to get me into a theater, anymore and I haven't come across that in more than a decade. Plenty that were fine entertainment for the small screen.
If they wanted to move outside their comfort zone and give me a nice film with some of Marvel's western heroes, in an honest to goodness western film, with cinematic vistas and cool shots and great characters, then I will be there. If they did Dominic Fortune, in all his pulpy glory, I will be there. Killraven, with all of the bizarre trappings and wonderful characters, count me in. Superheroes punching things and shooting firearms? Meh.....maybe on a monitor....if I can't find something better.
If it has a sense of fun, some decent characterizations and a semblance of a plot, I am fine with superhero stuff; but I am long worn out by the cookie-cutter nature of most of these. I preferred the ones that kind of went their own way....Captain America in WW2, though they did a really good job with Winter Soldier. The first Ant-Man, as a caper film (the second was okay, but somewhat less). Guardians of the Galaxy as a sort of space caper film. Thor Ragnarok, as a mix of Mad Max and myth, with a New Wave soundtrack. That's a bit more my speed.

Blah. I clicked in here on a whim, having written off most genre productions because of what's on display here. I'm puzzled how anyone can enjoy this stuff. They carefully suck the color out of everything (except for the few times when they use one predominant color). This is so far removed from how the world actually looks that it's distracting to the point of being instantly unwatchable. It would be one thing if this was used sparingly for a purpose by a true artist, but it's just a trend for lazy creators to follow. At least they avoided the shaky-cam trend. Even if the writing and acting were exceptional, I couldn't watch this.
