It's Top Shelf Friday time! So show us a comic (or comic-related or comic-tangential item) that you own that you believe should be on the Top Shelf. It can be because you think the comic is important or valuable, because it's a sentimental favorite or one of your favorite stories, because it's signed and holds great memories for you, just has a really cool cover or strikes your fancy or is just plain cool-whatever the reason show us that comic. Any pic of that comic will do, but bonus points if you can show us the actual copy you own. This week's pick, one of my favorite Darwyn Cooke covers from the Darwyn variant month DC did back in 2012/2013 (somewhere in there) all landscape covers. Here's the Teen Titans rocking out... (Yes I would have bought all these covers as a portfolio or prints by Darwyn, but that's not how they were offered, so I bought the variants-I also bought magnets of many of those covers that decorate one of the file cabinets I have downstairs) because that's what made getting them to the market viable and I wanted these gems by Darwyn). -M Previous Picks 3/1/24 Son of Sinbad 3/8/24 Brave & Bold #35 3/15/24 Piracy #1 3/22/24 Conan the Barbarian #1 3/29/24 Hawk #9 4/5/24 SSWS #126 4/12/24 It Rhymes with Lust 4/19/24 Avengers #162 4/26/24 1st Issue Special 8 5/3/24 Bat Lash #2 5/10/24 Straight Arrow #3 5/17/24 Frazetta ghosted Spirit Section 5/24/24 Green Arrow: Longbow Hunters #1 signed 5/31/24 Daredevil 47 6/7/24 Batman Black and White #4 6/14/24 Daredevil 158 6/21/24 King Kong #1 6/28/24 Hellrider #1 7/5/24 Michael Golden's Doctor Strange Portfolio 7/12/24 Barbarian Comics #1 7/19/24 Phantom Stranger #1 signed 7/26/24 Genius Animated 8/2/24 Flash Gordon: The Ice Monster 8/9/24 Space Science Fiction-God in the Bowl 8/16/24 Flash Comics #1 Millennium Edition 8/23/24 New Gods #7 8/30/24 Airboy #5 9/6/24 DC 100 Page Super Spectacular #4 9/13/24 GA Sketch cover by Justin Wasson 9/20/24 Fast Willie Jackson #1

Had this prepped as I'm off for the weekend....
British scream queen, Misty. She was a weekly British comic magazine targeted at girls and published by Fleetway in the late 1970s. This was followed by Hardback Annuals from 1979-86 and the occasional modern day holiday special. Thanks to its surreal and spooky content, it was one of the few British girls' comics that was also popular with boys.
Misty concentrated on supernatural and horror stories, featuring plots such as "pacts with the devil, schoolgirl sacrifice, the ghosts of hanged girls, sinister cults, evil scientists experimenting on the innocent and terrifying parallel worlds where the Nazis won the second world war."
This collection of stories, spanning 45 years in one HC, has a wealth of material to introduce new readers to her.

My summer of annuals concludes with a direct follow-up to last week's entry, to wit: Incredible Hulk Annual #15Again, this one was the subject of a previous post at this forum, and again, a solid story (by Danny Fingeroth) with stunning complete art job by Sal Buscema. As I noted in that linked post, this and the preceding annuals really highlight why Sal is "my" Hulk artist.
My previous picks (fortune favors the one who clicks here): {Spoiler: Click to show} 01/03/2024: Blackmark (1970s b&w pocketbook) 08/03/2024: Archie’s Superhero Comics Digest #2 15/03/2024: Donald Duck & the Golden Helmet (Whitman, 1978) 22/03/2024: Star Wars #38 28/03/2024: Showcase #100 05/04/2024: Chandler: Red Tide 12/04/2024: Alien, the Illustrated Story 19/04/2024: Amazing Spider-man Annual #10 26/04/2024: Marvel Premiere #32 03/05/2024: Best of DC Blue Ribbon Digest #9 10/05/2024: JLA #200 17/05/2024: Giant-Size Power Man #1 24/05/2024: Batman Annual #8 31/05/2024: Marvel 2-in-1 #51 07/06/2024: Superman #400 14/06/2024: Marvel Team-up #79 21/06/2024: Detective Comics #500 28/06/2024: Avengers #1&1/2 05/07/2024: Batman Special #1 (1984) 12/07/2024: Ismet #1 (Canis Publications, 1981) 19/07/2024: Detective Comics Annual #4 26/07/2024: X-men Annual #3 02/08/2024: Amazing Spider-man Annual #13 08/08/2024: Avengers Annual #9 16/08/2024: Amazing Spider-man Annual #14 23/08/2024: Avengers Annual #13 30/08/2024: Dr. Strange Annual #1 06/09/2024: Incredible Hulk Annual #7 13/09/2024: Thor Annual #13 20/09/2024: Hulk Annual #14

Challenge of the Super Friends wowed me as a kid, and the biggest reason was they had real villains to deal with in the form of the Legion of Doom. Several members of that nefarious group became my favorites in the comic books themselves, and so one of my early goals when I started buying Silver Age books was to get the first appearance of Sinestro. And here is my copy of GL #7 with that first appearance. He wasn't on the cover, and he didn't have the yellow ring yet (both of those would occur a couple of issues later), but this is where it all started and makes it my top shelf selection for this week.

As we drift closer and closer into the spooky season, I'm compelled to pick my tpb of Jack Kirby's The Demon It's a book that I've endlessly loved since I first came across it and almost always pick it up for another read through. I think what's so great about it is how utterly out of his element Jack is, but he still tries to make the story work and he does so in the same stroke of brilliance as anything else he's done, if not more so. If you write something with a completely sincere passion, regardless of knowledge, you'll still succeed and that's something that I've tried to carry over to my story, "The Black Bayou"

Continuing with the art from last week, this time original page artwork. In the 90s I loved both Legion books. Some of the best books DC was churning out there. I picked this two page splash from inker Ron Boyd, who inked Jason Armstrong. I loved the Legion roll call pages and to get a twofer is even better. I also love the tracing paper on here to show the effects of Cosmic Boy's powers. Before computers.. old school
