There are a lot of things I like about the new Birds of Prey series, But the arcs go on too long for the ideas presented within, and that’s a big pet peeve with me. So I was thinking about dropping it.
But I was at the comic shop yesterday, and I was flipping through the latest issue (#14), and those first few pages with Cass Cain changed my mind.
And then I got home and read the rest of it, and there’s a scene with Barda sparring with Magera and Onyx, and I was laughing out loud at some of the dialogue.

I really liked the new direction in Batman. I was underwhelmed by the art in Shazam. Redcoat wrapped up the first arc which I have really liked. And Daredevil appears to have Matt quit being a priest.

I really wanted to like the new Creature Commandos, the concept of a group of monsters going on covert ops has always been fun and with an October release it ticks that Halloween feeling I'm craving...but it just wasn't good. The art was muddy and the characterization was just plain bad. It was very clear the writer had never heard of these characters before and was just going through the motions with generic monsters...and then Brainiac showed up...and he's creating assassins that could covertly kill the President or destroy the UN? Why would Brainiac care about that? Again, they had no idea who Brainiac was, they just wrote a generic bad guy doing generic bad guy things for generic bad guy reasons. I really don't know how you could read this as an editor and say, "Yup, this is good enough to print!"

I think Chip does better when he goes small with his stories rather than doing big events which is why I hated his whole Failsafe story so I'm hoping he keeps things in check here with this new direction.
