It's Top Shelf Friday time! So show us a comic (or comic-related or comic-tangential item) that you own that you believe should be on the Top Shelf. It can be because you think the comic is important or valuable, because it's a sentimental favorite or one of your favorite stories, because it's signed and holds great memories for you, just has a really cool cover or strikes your fancy or is just plain cool-whatever the reason show us that comic. Any pic of that comic will do, but bonus points if you can show us the actual copy you own. This week's pick, in honor of James Gunn announcing that the best boy Krypto will be appearing in the upcoming Superman film, I am going to pick one of my favorite Krypto covers, Amanda Connor's variant for Supergirl #25. She did a series of variants featuring Kara and Krypto, but this is the one that caught my eye and sent me scrambling to pick them all up. Krypto was on the cover of the very first Superman Comics I bought off a spinner rack, #287, so I am including that as a bonus entry this week because Krypto is the best boy. (If I have time later, I will dig out my copy and take a pic to replace the mycomicshop image) -M Previous picks: 3/1/24 Son of Sinbad 3/8/24 Brave & Bold #35 3/15/24 Piracy #1 3/22/24 Conan the Barbarian #1 3/29/24 Hawk #9 4/5/24 SSWS #126 4/12/24 It Rhymes with Lust 4/19/24 Avengers #162 4/26/24 1st Issue Special 8 5/3/24 Bat Lash #2 5/10/24 Straight Arrow #3 5/17/24 Frazetta ghosted Spirit Section 5/24/24 Green Arrow: Longbow Hunters #1 signed 5/31/24 Daredevil 47 6/7/24 Batman Black and White #4 6/14/24 Daredevil 158 6/21/24 King Kong #1 6/28/24 Hellrider #1 7/5/24 Michael Golden's Doctor Strange Portfolio 7/12/24 Barbarian Comics #1 7/19/24 Phantom Stranger #1 signed 7/26/24 Genius Animated 8/2/24 Flash Gordon: The Ice Monster 8/9/24 Space Science Fiction-God in the Bowl 8/16/24 Flash Comics #1 Millennium Edition 8/23/24 New Gods #7 8/30/24 Airboy #5 9/6/24 DC 100 Page Super Spectacular #4 9/13/24 GA Sketch cover by Justin Wasson 9/20/24 Fast Willie Jackson #1 9/27/24 Teen Titans 5 Darwyn variant 10/4/24 Ghostly Haunts #41 10/11/24 Conan the Barbarian #76

One more bonus image, this is the sketch of Krypto I commissioned from Nate Lovett, a local artist and friend of the Gem City Show who has done a lot of work in animation, including Paw Patrol. It is on the back of the blank Action #100 cover, which I turned into a panel cover, the front is full of panel sketches from various artists, so I started on the back, and Krypto was the first-I haven't filled the back yet... -M edit to add, for those who haven't seen the teaser image Gunn released...

All of Amanda's covers are fun and airy. I wish more artists took a page from her and made fun covers.

This week I’m picking Man of Steel # 30. As a kid I was fascinated by the Colorforms toy. It’s essentially cut out figures and shapes made of vinyl that stick to a smooth surface , usually the surface is a picture of the scene relating to the shapes. This particular book came out during the specialty covers craze in the 90’s and supplied a cover that was just like colorforms. I actually own 2 of this book and they are still in the polybags. Maybe I’ll open it up and play with it after I post this.

O.k., it's time to start put some of my favorite trade collections into the mix here, as those, in fact, form the bulk of my current comics collection. And this is one of the first ones I purchased (on eBay for a song, back when that was possible) when I got back into comics back in the mid-'00s, i.e., the Project Pegasus Saga: Collecting, obviously, Marvel Two-in-One #53-58, the best-ever multi-part story in that series, plus #60 (the Impossible Man story).
My previous picks (whosoever clicks here is a stranger no more):
