I was doing a bit of updating on the book review thread title page... and I'm getting concerned the post is going to meltdown at some point. It actually lags (sometimes significantly) when editing it. I do think people use it, so it's worth keeping up. But I think it needs to not be that much data in one post.
Some possibilities:
-split it into 2 posts (I think the 'recommendations page can go without to much trouble, I suspect at this point alot of those are in the thread reviewed anyway). This is the easiest to do but also the least effective... it feels like it's just kicking the can down the road until we fill up two posts.
-Use a separate thread for the index (perhaps stickied) Then it can be nicely divided, with no concern of space, but is decidedly less convienent.
-move the first couple reviews/posts and use multiple posts (I think 4 would be ideal). This would probably be plenty of space for a long time, and wouldn't be too much trouble to just copy/paste a post or two to the end.
-I'm wrong that people use it and just forget it.
Any thoughts?
I would also love if any one had any brilliant idea on data parsing... I would love to create and share some stats on the thread, but seems really difficult to parse the list.

I do use the index now and then, so I definitely don't want to see it go away. I don't have an issue with it being separated as long as long as it's stickied or something like that so it doesn't get buried at the bottom of the pages.

I definitely use the index, quite often, so I similarly don't want to see it get nuked. But yeah, I've noticed that, e.g., it takes a long time for the first page of the thread to load, which is probably tied to the immense size of the first, index post. Maybe a stickied separate thread is the best solution? Although I would agree that that might be less convenient...

If you can break it down into separate posts, either in a separate stickied thread or with posts inserted into the current thread at the beginning, I would suggest breaking the initial post into 4
1 post with general fiction 1 post with sci-fi/fantasy 1 post with non-fiction and the last being the recommendations.
Not ideal or as convenient as having it all in one, but should fix the lag issue when editing or loading those posts.

Been several years since I had a look at the mod/admin options-is it even possible to insert posts in a thread? I know you can merge threads but they merge chronological by time posted, not sure if you can alter the order or create new posts out of chronological order, so it may need to be a new thread that gets stickied. If so, put a link to it in the first post so it's always accessible as part of/from the original thread, even if it stands separately. -M

How about linking a separate text file that people can download if they're interested?

That would be just as inconvenient as a separate thread I think, and would be tougher to update with the posting tools here. I could see that being a good solution if it was static for sure, but where it's pretty regularly updated not sure that would work.
I wouldn't need posts inserted, I would just copy the first couple into a new post at the end and edit them afterwards.

So for some reason had in my head I could edit any of the posts, which was dumb... 3 of the 1st 4 posts are mine though, so I moved the recommendations to the 3rd one (after the first review) and I split the list in 2 so the 1st one is sci fi/fantasy and the 2nd post is the rest.
If some mod can delete the post in between (the 3rd post in the thread).. I re-posted that review currently.
