Man that was tough. I think I may have just nailed it down to 12. Finally.
I'll post a front page link to the new thread once it's up (and when I wake up) first thing in the morning.

Getting a late start this year, but since I never did the 2005 one, I'll join in, too.

Good to see you, Polar Bear.
I think I'm ready with my list. My basic thinking was, "What picks could show off that I am culturally literate and hip when it comes to comics? I want Kurt to think I'm smart."

Well I'm going to have to make a decision soon. I've got 10 with a clear ranking, but then I have about ten other comics all equally important to me to sort out for the 11th and 12th ranks on my list.
Nothing like waiting 'til the last second...

There are too many great books with emotional and quality components to make this an easy year. I find most of my 12 to be interchangeable.

The vast majority of my choices come from about a 2-3 year period. In fact most are from about a one year period.
It's nostalgia zone.

Mine will probably be the same, around 1977-1981, my golden age.

I have a pretty solid choice for my number one pick but my other 11 are more or less going to be what ever I happen upon that day.

Yeah, I think mine will all be from my early days of comics reading. I've read lots of stories since then that stack up with the best of the older stuff, but for individual comics as physical artifacts and repositories of emotionally-charged memories, it's the ones you held in your hands in childhood that carry the most weight. The later ones, anything I read in my 20s or since, I tend to think of as complete stories. Gilbert Hernandez's Poison River, for example, means as much to me as anything from childhood, but I couldn't tell you in which individual Love and Rockets issue a particular episode of that long story was featured.

Not totally germane to the discussion, but when I browse this board I often see five to ten "guests" listed at the bottom and it got me thinking today, "What do these anonymous viewers think of our tradition?"

Hopefully they're thinking "Boy, that looks like fun! I'm going to join in!'
