Primarily explain why you chose the work, but also offer enough of an explanation of the work itself that someone who has not read it will understand what you're talking about. |

Was sort of hoping this year's would be a return to our beginnings. A couple of mine will change, I'm sure, & of course at least two will be new with the addition of Nos. 11 & 12, but otherwise my picks have been set in stone for going on nine years now.

No one said we cannot pick specific issues from TPBs, though, RIGHT?
Just cannot list an entire TPB or graphic novel, correct?
This is going to be so difficult for me. I haven't read nearly as much as you all have, but I think I can pick at least 12. Narrowing down a #1, though, sheesh, that's going to take some heartfelt thinking.

Well Tpb's are collected individual issues. So if the TPB has X-men 1-10 and you like # 8. Then you choose #8 as your favorite. I'm wondering if an original Graphic novel is eligible. It shouldn't matter if the GN is 150 pages long if it's just one story. |

Regarding OGN: Cei-U said in the original post original GN are eligible. I also PMed him and asked about 80/100 page giants, Marvel Special Editions, Annuals that are reprint collections and Treasury Editions and he said they were all acceptable too (Kurt can correct me if he changes his mind or I misread the response), so just sharing that. So I think as long as it is in "floppy" format for the most part, or an original story that appears only in GN form, you shoudl be good, but then again, it's not my call.

Two questions that I'm putting here instead of PMing in case it helps others, too. 1. What if you first experienced a story as a collected edition, and that's the source of your nostalgia? I'm assuming the answer is "no," but thought I'd check. Some collected editions do include additional content that wasn't found in the original publications, too. I love my Wolverine & the Incredible Hulk far more than the Hulk #181 I once owned and then sold without batting an eye, for example. Still figuring your answer is "no," and I'm not trying to debate that. Just thought I'd ask. If you're referring to either the '86 one-shot or its '89 reprint, both would be eligible because both are in comic book format, where the Essential Hulk volume reprinting #180-81, a TPB, would not. Again, if the reprint is in comic book format, it's eligible, but the Nostalgia Press or Fantagraphics collections are not. I don't have my old list either, and I'm having trouble remembering them all. But then again, I've read a helluva lot of comics in the decade since the first CCC so, beyond my top three, I'm not altogether sure I want to simply go with my old choices plus two. Cei-U! The comic itself, i.e., the physical paper-and-ink artifact, is our focus, not necessarily the content. X-Men #40, for example (the one with the alien-built Frankenstein robot), might make somebody's list because it was the first comic they ever bought, even though in hindsight they recognize the content sucks. If, conversely, they've only ever encountered it in the Omnibus edition, they could not cite in on their list, even if they inexplicably believe it's the epitome of sophisticated storytelling. Cei-U!
