I may end up passing as well, though for a completely different reason. When remembering comics past, I think more in terms of runs than individual issues. There are a few singles that come to mind but finding 12 seems a lofty ambition. I’m afraid I’ll end up picking the first issues of particular runs because they struck me different or original or just plain good. Which is a valid reaction, I admit. But in doing so I might end up ignoring better issues that came about later as teams jelled and momentum built. And then there’s the opposite effect: concluding issues that depend on what preceded but don’t stand up as well alone. I know it shouldn’t matter; my initial reaction to these stories remain regardless of surrounding circumstances. I am still conflicted.
As stated by others, I've got time to work it out. Plus, it takes more time these days to sift through an increasingly spotty memory. Here’s hoping.

I think you pick the ones that hold the strongest nostalgia for you. Sometimes, that will be the first issue you read of a run; sometimes the final one; sometimes just the issue in the middle where you suddenly got a chill down your spine and realized you were reading something magical. Go with your gut, and the best part is, since the criteria is so subjective, there's no one to judge your ultimate choices but yourself. Who's going to argue with me if I decide the NFL Super-Pro Special Edition #1 is my favorite comic book of all time?

I'm in and in fact I already have a good 25 or so jotted down. So glad I got the e-mail that this was going on again this year and saddened that the old lists have been lost. The last three years I would read through those old threads and get some good ideas for which back issues to hunt down. Oh well, onward and upward.

That's about as abominable as Cei-u picking Pig Iron as on of his favorite costumes last year. Pig Iron?

My "final list" didn't even make it 24 hours. And all ten books from my '05 list are back.
Cei-U! Quality will out!

I've got my list whittled down to a mere 450.

I have a tentative list done, so unless I...
...no joke, I literally just thought of one while writing this sentence. Dammit. Hold that thought.

If I read between the lines correctly, the choices are more emotional than critical evaluations of the books. It's not the best stories per se, it's what the individual comic books mean to you that counts. I've read thousands of comics but maybe only a few dozen have given me that " oh wow" feeling. I will approach it that way it will whittle down the list.

There's one book on my list that can't be justified on the basis of art, story, historical significance - anything. Except that it's special to me.

My list is going to be a mishmash. Some are issues that are important to me because of what they represent in terms of my reading experience - issues that introduced me to new characters or genres, that sort of thing. Others are stories that made a lasting impression as a kid, so I have nostalgia for them. Some are issues that have epic collecting stories to go with them - that issue that I just had to have, and spent years trying to find. And some combine all three of these.

I am basing mine on the impact they had on me upon first reading... most memorable would be another way of looking at it. They will all have a particular emotional reaction attached to them that I still remember today. When you consider that most of the selections on my list were first read over 30 years ago my memory may be a bit hazy on all the details but the impact they had on me lingers to the present day. It has been a lot of fun reliving those experience-so that alone has made this particular 12 days wonderful!

That's what my list is shaping up to be; a mishmash of nostalgia, sentimental reasons and the reasons behind I chose my selections. Kind of like DubipR's Classic Comic Timeline...
