Found this at Barnes & Noble today Apparently 2nd in a series. Lots of cool old horror and SF covers in black and white. And a few super-heroes turn up - Captain Atom/Blue Beetle, the Flame, Captain Midnight, Captain Science. (in fact, the first page has the Captain Science cover Farrar posted recently over in the Homage Covers thread, and there's also the cover Phil Maurice chose for this week's Cover Contest.) I'm actually tempted to leave them all in B&W. But where's the fun in that, eh?

I haven't done the adult coloring book thing. My wife picked one up after sending her niece, who justed moved to NYC, one that was NYC-centric. She loved it and colors while she unwinds at lunch.
I've been tempted but now think I'm going to do it thanks to your posting here Jodoc. Thanks !

I took a journey to a trading store last week. They mostly sell used CD's, DVD's, etc. On the second floor is the Vinyl room: Awesome place to check out old records. But in the back there is a staircase leading to a third floor. Almost a secret because there is no signage telling customers what's up there: Well I decided to check out what lies beyond, and this is what I found! A Comic Book room! They had this glass enclosure with some classic key issues to the left of the entrance. I was tempted to snag that Fantastic Four #49. It was a VG and they were asking $99 for it. Ultimately I passed when I found a few others I wanted. All of the other older classic issues in the longboxes were print outs that you had to bring up to the front of the store to check out. I found a Forever People #1 for $40 that I wanted, but when I got to the counter, they said they could not find the issue. I got the feeling that the owners weren't comic book guys, they were more vinyl enthusiasts and admitted as much. The flipside to that is that they had excellent prices on several key issues. I had sold Astonishing Tales #25 a few years ago and deeply regretted it. I found a VG for $35, which I bought in a heartbeat. And although I didn't get the Forever People #1, I found a Forever People #2 for $2 bucks. Several of these were between $3-$5 with key issues no more than $10. Here's the haul: I left that store with a huge smile on my face. It will be my new go-to spot for back issues from now on!

Would kill for a comic book store with back issues like this! Here in Phoenix every store has gone the route of pushing all the newest issues on their walls with only a small spattering of back issue boxes to be had. Usually only a table or two of boxes and those most often only have issues of the last 2-3 years. Seems the new fad is selling only the highest priced back issues around the counters and then anything more than 4-5 years old is for selling on the internet. Almost no joy to be found for searching through stores for back issues collecting anymore The only time there is any real selection to be found is on free comic book day. I picked up almost complete series of the new 52 version's of Swamp Thing and Phantom Stranger for 50 cents an issue this year.

I used to have a place kind of like that in Omaha called The Antiquarian. It was in the Old Market and was big and really musty. Main floor and upstaris but there's a stairs going downstairs, where the good stuff was.
A huge vinyl room and a corner with comics. The comics were never well arranged and there were many but they got some good things now and again and had great prices.
Unfortunately they went under about 20 years ago and part of me cried inside.
It's extremely hard to find stores with any kind of decent stock. There's a few here in town but one guy is a weirdo and stinks form no deodorant. Another has a good selection but is a clown and doesn't follow through like he promises. Yet another is fairly well laid out but has sky high prices.
Thank God for the interwebs !
Nice haul BaB !

I'm lucky that here in Rochester, NY, there are a 5 or 6 comics stores, and a couple have very good selections, though the ones with better selection and better organization are a bit more pricey. Well, I'll be moving to Florida in a few months, so I'll have to take my chances down there!

To be honest, the last 2 or 3 times I was in Wonderland was just to get bags, and I've only been to Comics, Etc. once since it moved, though Andy is still the go-to for my friends that buy a lot of current books.

Empire Comics also has good selection, but is a bit pricey. Comics etc. in Gates is nice, though not an awesome selection. There are a couple of others. There used to be one on Park Ave, but sadly they closed. There's also a couple in the city that I haven't been to too recently. Are you from Rochester?

I'm thinking of is the one that moved from the Village Gate to Main Street.

So, I popped into Mega City Comics in Camden, London yesterday to trade in some modern issues that I wouldn't be reading again and pick up some Bronze Age stuff that I will want to read and re-read. I got £145 in store credit for the books I bought in and I got a nice stack of 50 comics in exchange. Best of all, every comic I got is one that was on my "wants list". Their condition mostly ranges from Very Good to Very Fine, with a few Near Mint issues thrown in. I did pick up a pretty beat up copy of Batman #245 by Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams because I want to own more of Adams's early '70s Batman stories, and they're usually prohibitively expensive. £3.50 an issue is a bit more my speed... I picked up a load of late '70s and early '80s issues of Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man, which I think is a very underrated series... I also got some Bronze Age issues of Amazing Spider-Man and some '90s Spidey comics.

I've been to Comics Etc. too though not in a few years. Like you, I've only been there once since they moved. There's also (or used to be) one on St. Paul. I went in there a few times not too long after he opened, but he had virtually nothing pre-1990, so I stopped going there. He said that those older comics were in the back room and he just hadn't taken them out yet, but I've never gone back to see if his Bronze and Silver Age selection improved.
