I finally bit the bullet and bought a copy of Detective Comics #371. That's the infamous "Batgirl's Costume Cut-Ups" issue. I was looking for low-grade (but not too low-grade!) issues of Detective Comics and I found a dealer selling Detective Comics #366 and #390 at 40% off. I got #366 in VG- for $5. I got #390 in VG+ for $9. And I was looking at the other issues of Detective from that dealer, but didn't see anything else quite inexpensive enough. But there was a Detective Comics #371, pretty beat-up, listed as VG-, for $30, marked down from $50. I love that story, and I've noticed before how expensive #371 is. I sighed. I don't think I'm likely to see one nearer my price range in an acceptable condition. So I added it to my cart and bought it. I'm looking forward to this batch! In addition to "Batgirl's Costume Cut-Ups," I'm also getting two Elongated Man stories that I've never read! The Dibnys are a couple of FREAKS! I love them. (They are almost as nutty as the Langstroms.)

I was driving home from church and saw a yard sale. The guy had about 10 long boxes but he wanted 2 dollars for each. That's kind of high for a yard sale but I picked these up anyway.

If I'm not mistaken, that Swamp Thing issue on the left is the first appearance of John Constantine. Nice find, icc!

Definitely high for a yard sale, but a good price for those particular books.

Finally got to read to my kids and their three cousins tonight. I have a subscription to the new Batman so I compared The Batman story from Detective Comics #27 from 1939 versus Batman Rebirth #1 from 2016.
DC BR 6 year old 10 Had to leave. 7 year old 10 5 8 year old 8.5 4.5 9 year old 9 7 10 year old 8.5 7
Definitely universal love for the original Batman story. The kids definitely were following the story twists and were surprised when the heavy turned out to just be an employee of the real villain. The 2016 was not disliked though its lack of action definitely bothered the 8 year old. Nobody felt it was terrible, just not great.

Curses! I am so jealous. I'm trying to put together a collection of all Kirby's DC stuff without bankrupting myself. Cheap poor condition, uncollectable copies. Not that common in the UK.

I have waited to find the Kirby fourth world issues for the right price. I just want the book to be complete even if it's a bit worn. Those books are compete but they have writing on the covers.
