Had a chance to go out yesterday and hit the anniversary sale at one of the big LCS here in Pittsburgh. Picked up the following: These were the two big buys for the day. The Daredevil issue leaves me two short of completing the entire series, and I've been wanting to pick up this Marvel Premiere for a while now, even though it does have Frank Robbins on art. That Marvel Premiere is great Bronze Age Bonkers fun! And Frank Robbins is awesome! As for that issue of Daredevil ... I had every issue at one time (when there were only around 240 issues) so I had #68, but don't remember the story at all. DD was pretty bad for a long stretch, around #55 to around #80, and I had them all and read them when I got them, but I never made a habit out of re-reading that particular run. But I know what it's like when you have to have every issue!

Love the Robbins art.😊 I think I can get behind Robbins' art on this book, because they're monsters. They don't have to look realistic, and the more non-conforming they are, it's probably better. For me, Robbins just didn't work on Captain America or The Invaders, because I like my people to look like people.

When Ollie's had their DC trade blowout, I managed to put together a large chunk of the JSA series and the Kate Spencer Manhunter series, but was missing a couple of volumes from each. I noticed Lonestar had the volumes Iw as missing in stock at good prices, so I ordered those, and added a handful of back issues to complete a handful of series I was close to being done with. Order was checked in and is shipping today, but soon I should have the following in hand
Manhunter Vol. 2, 3 JSA Vol. 4, 5, 8
completing both those series in trade.
Also on the way...all competing the respective series in single issues
Atari Force 16, 19 Conan the Savage 10 Hawkman (2002 series) 35, 38 Kamandi 2, 26, 32 Moonshadow (Epic release not Vertigo) 5 Omega Men 33, Ann 2

It's a new edition of a classic comic, but I picked up the latest Lone Sloane volume form Titan today-Lone Sloane Gail: Love me some Druillet. I was told this was sold out at Diamond when I ordered it the week it came out, but magically a copy was available from Diamond for my shop when they reordered. Now if only the same thing would happen with Frankenstein Alive, Alive #4. -M

I ordered a low-grade copy of Detective Comics #285 ... ... and a coverless copy of World's Finest #170! (It's an 80-Page Giant! And only $1.24!)

I was swithering about buying a copy on eBay.fr the other day - I had just reread Delerius for the umpteenth time - but money is tight so I only ended up buying a couple of battered Valérians.

Stopped by the Antique Center (a giant indoor flea market essentially though one where the vendors don;t need to be present to sell, the company handles all sales for a commission and provides storage/display space for all the vendors. I know the family who runs the center, and their son, Zach, runs a comic stall there and does a lot of local shows). I wandered around inside a bit getting some walking in on a rainy day and would up picking up a few books out of the dollar bins at Zach's booth
Jeffrey Jones Ravens & Rainbows #1 Will Eisner's 3-D Classics Featuring the Spirit #1 Swords of the Swashbucklers #1 (I now only need #5 to complete that series) The Shade (1997 spin off mini from Starman) #1 AD&D #32 Doctor Fate 3-6, 8, 10-16, 19, 21, 24, 31, 32

Every Thursday, we get our local free paper delivered to the house. I skim through the articles, most of which are just local interest things or the police blotter, but I always check out the classifieds in the back, particularly for the garage sales and flea markets. Last week, there was an ad in there for a guy who was selling comic books out of his house this past weekend. It said everything was bagged and boarded, and as it was only a 10-minute drive from my place, I checked it out. The guy had his stuff set up in the garage, about 2,000 or so books; he said he had about 5K more in the basement and would be bringing more out as the weekend progressed. He had them separated by price, with things ranging from 5/$1 "reader" books (mostly new stuff that he apparently picked up in bulk), a bunch of $2 - $5 boxes, going all the way up to three short boxes labeled "Arm", "Leg", and "First Born". As well, there were some very choice books hanging in protective sleeves on the wall, including a Conan #1 and a NYX #3. I only picked up a few things, but I had a really good time talking with the guy. He turned his stereo on and was playing a mix of Elvis Costello and ELO, and he had The Smiths, Devo, Oingo Boingo, and other 80's alternative bands on CD in stacks around the room. We talked music, comics, and movies for about an hour, leading his wife to crack at one point "Just remember, guys, no kissing on the first date" with a huge smile on her face. Really great guy and a lot of fun to hang out and pick through his stuff. As for my purchases, I got: Sub-Mariner #47 for $4 Marvel Premiere #'s 39 & 40 (Torpedo issues) and #44 (Jack of Hearts) for $3 each Marvel Preview #12 for $5. It's a little rough, particularly the back, but it has a killer Earl Norem cover:

Been more than a year since I bought any books. Scratched the itch with a couple of first appearances*: (*Thor #165 is Warlock's [then called Him] first FULL appearance. FF #67 is just a cameo, though this is not a universally-held belief.) Lastly, I finally acquired a Jack Cole Plastic Man, and it is a doozy! Police Comics #24 in about 6.0. Also some really nice Spirit work by Eisner.

Nice pickups, Phil Maurice. If you don't mind me asking, what does a 7.5 graded Cap #117 go for these days? Just curious, because my copy is at least that, if not a little better.
