Judge Dredd: Complete Case Files 4 & 5 After reading over some scans of the progs in these two, I felt like I owed it to myself to buy them. The latter half of 4 (after The Judge Child saga) and the entirety of 5 contains a lot of the stories I grew up on my meager collection of colorized Judge Dredd comics, especially the "Crime Files". Art is sharp and incredibly crisp, which seems like an empty handed complement, but I can't tell you how many b&w tomes of comics I've come across where something was "off" with a panel or page

No pics, but my LCS was running a bunch of sales on TPBs and back issues today for FCB 2018, so I decided to spend a little of the money I make from my side hustle (dealing Magic: The Gathering cards on eBay) on two things:
Thor Marvel Masterworks, volume 1 - this covers the early Journey into Mystery stories, from issues #83 - 100. It's hardback, and it only cost me $20, while the cover price is $50. At this point, I only need volumes 2 and 3 and I have the entire Thor run from start to finish.
Howard the Duck Complete Collection, volume 1 - this collects the first 16 issues of HtD, plus Annual #1, Man-Thing #19, Marvel Treasury #12, and some material from GSMT #4 and 5. I already own all of the HtD issues except for #1 and #13 (the KISS issue), and as each of those go for more than the $15 this single collection cost me, it was well worth the price to own the stories to read.

Picked up a huge lot of X-Men and other comics...lots from #150-300, a few nice ones from the Claremont run which I will keep (including a gorgeous copy of X-Men #101). Super excited! Also in the lot were a complete set of the Marvels run and some other random stuff that I was happy to get. Some of the stuff I had (like a full Infinity Gauntlet set) so I will likely sell some stuff but overall around 300 comics for $2.00 each for the quality these were was a no brainer. Pics to come!

Nothing special but a couple of my kids and I made the 160 mile round trip to our nearest comic shop yesterday - OK, one of the kids had roller derby training, the other needed new school trousers, and there was a political demo I wanted to go to as well so Free Comic Book Day was the cherry on the cake. By the time we got to the comic shop it was pretty late in the day and there were few of the Free Comic books left - so they had hauled out some slightly seen better days old stock to fill the table (this shop doesn't do second hand) and I picked up a few dozen Vertigos including 13 copies of American Century, and all sorts of other filling holes-in-the-collection goodies.
The turn out on the demo was pretty damn impressive too. Very heartening.
A good day.

Here is a photo of all the issues I am keeping from my recent acquisition. I would love to keep it all, but having just had a child, I need to cover the cost. That being said, I should easily be able to break even and come away with these issues free of charge. Very excited about the X-Men and the Marvels issues. Also, I don't usually collect or keep newer comics but the full set of Original Sin is intriguing to me...I liked Aaron's work on Thor so I am going to hang onto Original Sin and give it a read. I was blown away at the condition of everything this guy had. He had double even triple boarded many of the books and everything, with the exception of a few issues, were in high grade condition.

So while browsing eBay and looking at the issues of Detective Comics from the 290s that I need, I came across a beat-up copy of Detective Comics #296. It's pretty beat up, but not nearly as beat up as the #295 I ordered recently, and it seemed like a STEAL at $9.99. So I ordered it. I should get it in a few days. I just need #297, #298 and #300 and I'll have every issue from #285 to the present. FYI, I've gotten some good deals on Silver Age Detective Comics and Batman from ebay vendor Comic-Warehouse. They do a lot of "Buy It Now" transactions, but they auction sometimes, too, and that's where I've hit a few with minimum bids. They are a pretty good source for Silver Age DC in general.

Something that I've desperately wanted to get my hands on for a very long time I came across a heavily discounted copy of the original back when I was about 8. I loved it to pieces and re-read it constantly. It so wonderfully brilliant in both it's slapstick and execution that it's no wonder why it was serialized in Nintendo Power way back when. Unfortunately my copy got heavily water damaged and then misplaced when my original comics collection got taken away because of a particularly bad report card. Trying to re-buy it before the re-release was utterly heartbreaking because of how much copies of the original go for now. It's one of the many downsides of having a hobby that can really make it suck sometimes. I'm just glad that no one can ever truly take it away from me again I can only hope that the rumored IDW Mario comic is as good as this is

I've been looking for a copy of the Heavy Metal adaptation of Steven Speilberg's movie 1941 at a reasonable price for a while now. I got this particular copy off of eBay for less than £5 including P&P, so I'm well happy with that. The comic has suitably bizarre, underground comix-influenced art inside by Stephen Bissette and Rick Veitch, and is actually much more enjoyable than the rather tedious movie that it adapts. This is a comic that I recall fondly from my childhood because my best friend back then had a copy (it had been gifted to him by an uncle). The surreal artwork and weird, satirical storyline -- not to mention nudity -- made this a very memorable book back when I was on the cusp of my teens. The last time I read it was probably about 1986 or something, so I'm really looking forward to revisiting it and seeing how it holds up.

The last time I read it was probably about 1986 or something, so I'm really looking forward to revisiting it and seeing how it holds up. I'm a fan of the movie (see--there is one) and bought what little merch there was around it, including this. Unlike most movie adaptations that try to substitute for the movie, this feels like more it's own thing, drawn from the script with little reference to the finished product. (Which was often a problem--besides timelines, Walt Simonson spoke at a show about when he did the Close Encounters adaptation, they couldn't use Richard Dreyfuss' likeness [which is why a chubby guy stars in the book] and he couldn't remove photos or even make sketches when he met with the studio reps. He told how he sketched frantically in the elevator while it was still fresh in his mind.) The 1941 adaptation is pretty much the closest we'll come to a 48-page, full-color story in the MAD comic-book style. Wild layouts, full-bleed, collage... it has the frenetic energy the movie tried for but didn't always achieve.

I rather like the 1941 movie as well. And I'm also really interested in reading that comic adaptation. Anyway, over the weekend I finally scored something I've been wanting ever since I learned it existed: The paperback edition that collects Cooke's New Frontier, with all of the extra stuff. Bought it brand new from a dealer at Zagreb's annual comic show, who even knocked a few bucks off of the price.

Love Belushi's face, it's one parts "I've seen some shit" two parts "eat shit". Belushi's face also gives me George C. Scott Patton vibes

This past weekend, my wife's grandmother informed me of some comics for sale at a yard sale she was helping at. I knew from past experience and knowing the town I live in, that it was probably nothing so I did not rush over but did swing mid morning. I had just the week before lucked upon a large X-Men collection so I felt maybe there was some more comic luck to be had. When I got there, it seemed that someone had scooped up one of the totes that was there. But luck was on my side. The guy had another bin in the garage and it was chock full of random greatness! It was all not boarded but they were in yellowing bags. Below is a compilation of the haul! First he hodge podge stuff... I would have been happy with this. A couple real nice X-Men books, the first three issues of Micronauts (a series I have been wanting to read) and some other decent issues. All in Very Fine condition too! Next, a little better.. Almost a full set! Never read any Doc Savage, other than a crossover in a Spidey issue. These books are untouched it seems....I could find nary a crease. Very happy to get them (and I will have to hunt out #8) But wait, there's more! This fills in the first 25 issues or so for me for Moon Knight now. I also got a bunch of doubles that I already had in the haul. Once again, nary a crease on these. Now, for something a little different... I have always wanted some older Conan magazines. These were the worst conditioned of everything I found, as they were loose and near the bottom of the pile. A few have some spine wear but generally they are all in good shape. And finally, the piece that, as soon as I saw it, I knew it was gonna be a good haul. It was on top and rightfully so It is in mid grade shape, some wear but for the most part, no issues. And guess what...there was even more!!! At least 20 ASM and Daredevil issues from the 80s, New Teen Titans #1 and Spider-Woman #1, all of which I already have. There were also 30 issues of stuff I dont really collect that I can sell or trade.

^^ Very impressive haul there, pinkfloydsound17. I'm especially jealous of the Ali vs. Superman treasury. Dare I ask how much you paid for that book?
