I love buying and selling stuff! Especially when I get to make some money and keep somit comics.
I think I posted this here but in case not, I bought a collection of X-Men three weeks ago. Was a great deal and while I would love to have kept all of it, my goal was to sell most of it but keep the copy of #101, a book that has exceeded the value I wanna pay.
I am happy to report that I have made money back plus a bit more and got to keep the following from the collection:
- Xmen 101, 112, 114, 141, 142 - Spec Spidey #64 - Hulk 340 - Complete set of Original Sin - About 20 other random Xmen issues of interest (the Life Death issues, some stuff from the mutant massacre)

Half Price Books has their 20% off sale for Memorial Day weekend again, and we had a bunch of old CDs and books we wanted to get rid of, so off to Columbus we went. Amy took advantage of the sale (and our credit) and picked up all 5 seasons of Clone Wars plus the Lost Missions on DVD and Rebels Seasons 1-3 on Blue Ray. She also picked up the Hera Syndulla Black Series action figure and a trio of prose novels continuing the adventures of Phil Foglio's Girl Genius stories (plus a Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson book she didn't have). I picked up a handful of stuff too, some classic, some modern... Jack Katz's First Kingdom Vol. 4 Robert E. Howard's Savage Sword 3, 4, and 10 (completing that series) Hit 1955 tpb Will Eisner's Hawks of the Sea hc from Dark Horse Invisible Republic Vol.1 by Gabriel Hardman and Corinna Bechko and... Coffin Hill Vol. 1 Frank Miller's Sin City Vol. 5 Family Values Frank Miller's Ronin tpb Star * Reach Greatest Hits collecting the Elric adaptation by Frank Brunner Pretty Deadly Vol. 1 Invaders 3, 4, 5, and 6 for a buck each. -M

...Will Eisner's Hawks of the Sea hc from Dark Horse That Hawks of the Sea collection is surprisingly good. I say surprising because it's very early, primitive Eisner, but make no mistake, it's full bore, rip-snorting, action-packed, swashbuckling fun. I took a chance on it when my LCS had it discounted and I was not disappointed. Eisner creates a thoroughly entertaining narrative in suitably exotic settings that you can't help but become immersed in. That collection really does come highly recommended by me. Enjoy!

Grabbed this of ebay recently. Sadly, #50 is just so high up there price wise...I aim to one day have it but until then, this will help fill in the 20 issues or so I am missing between #50-400

Classic and not as classic related...my order from Twomorrows Memorial Day sale came in the mail yesterday. I got Joe Sinnott: Brushstrokes with Greatness Modern Masters: Cliff Chiang Modern Masters: Eric Powell. Really looking forward to the Sinnott book. I've browsed through it and there is a ton of pin-ups and commission works in it that are just beautiful. I'm a big fan of Chiang's work. Definitely one of my top ten current artists. I've read a bit of Powell's work, though not a lot. I got the book because I do like his stuff and it was cheap (I think $6 with shipping). I'm thinking of reading it and his comic work simultaneously.

Went to the Jim & Dan's Comic & Toy Show this morning/afternoon. I had just sold a metric shit-ton of vintage rpg stuff so had a little splurge money to play with today and did splurge on some stuff.. Splurge #1... Piracy #1 with a gorgeous Wally Wood cover, my first actual (i.e. non-reprint) EC book I have ever bought... Splurge #2... one of the actual Spirit sections, this one in particular because the art was ghosted by Frank Frazetta... Splurge #3... both volumes of Steranko's History of Comics... Splurge #4... Kong is King (sized) splurge # 5... Blazing Combat #3 & #4 both with Frazetta covers... I got some more stuff (seen in forthcoming posts) of the kind I normally get at shows, but this was the kind of stuff I usually don't get as my budget at shows is limited. None of the pieces I splurged on was more than $20 individually, but I usually keep stuff under $10 a pop at shows with rare exceptions. Today I expanded that price range a little bit. -M

The rest of the haul... a batch of $5 trades... a pair of DC sci-fi GN from a $5 trade dealer a pair of $5 Dc Treasuries... some more $5 trades... the Flash Gordon book wasa NYCC exclusive 75th anniversary hc. a Brothers Hildebrandt art book featuring their Tolkien stuff from a $5 trade dealer... more $5 trades... I had been meaning to replace my copy of the Kents I had lent out and never got back a whilr ago and lo there is was a bunch of Warren Ellis stuff form a $5 trade dealer and four volumes of Wasteland a series i have the first volume of but want to get the rest, this makes a dent... not pictured were a pair of Mercy Thompson trades by Patricia Briggs for my wife, who like that series of novels and has been getting the trades when she sees them. Most of these $5 trades actually worked out to $4 each as they were $5 each or 5/$20. More to come... -M

Kamandi, the Last Boy on Earth! one more post coming, this time art. -M

From my friend Adam Fields, I picked up a couple of sketch prints (Martian Manhunter & Catwoman) and commissioned a sketch card of Ookla the Mok! former Archie artist Craig Boldman had a bunch of sketch cards he was selling 5 for $10, so I picked up these 5, to which Craig complemented by wide range of eclectic tastes... Orion of the New Gods, the Spirit, Bill form Schoolhouse Rock, Count Chocula and Space Ghost's Phantom Cruiser. Jeff Austin of AC Comics (publishers of stuff like FemFore and Men of Mystery) was there selling original art again ( I picked up a bunch of art from him at the last Jim & Dan's show). He has two piles- $10 a page and $20 a page. I picked out 5 pieces form the $10 pile, but when I went to pay him, he only charged me $20 total. I tried to make him take $40 at least, but he handed me back the second $20 and said, just buy more next time a she appreciated me supporting all the artists in artist's alley (I got something from just about every table) and taking time to talk to them all. So these were the 5 I picked up, the first was a piece was done for a fanzine, an Ant-Man sketch pencilled by legendary Marvel artist Dick Ayers and inked by Jeff... this was another fanzine piece done by Jeff featuring the JSA... the last three were pieces Jeff did for spot illustrations done for a fantasy novel written by an friend of his... The last bit of art I got, were a pair of prints from Joe Pruitt (writer/artist of Brit & Ivy), who had worked with the guys I know from Twilight Star a few years before I ever met them. The first print was of Usagi Yojimbo... Joe reminded me of the story I had heard a few years back when Stn was a guest at Gem City-Joe had given Stan a copy of this print, and Stan liked it so much and was so appreciative, he signed the original art for it that Joe had done, took a pic of it and had posted in on social media to give Joe some exposure. The second was a Scooby Doo print by Joe... I also picked up a handful of small press books at the show, one, Wyld, from Lee and Nate Christopher (or Xopher as they sign their stuff) who were at the show, and a pair of books that were just released at Cherry Capitial Comic Con last weekend but that the owner of my lcs had picked up and was selling at this show-Floppy Cop #1 by Dan Dougherty & Seth Damoose, and the limited Ghost variant of Cosa Nostro by Dirk Manning & Dan Dougherty (with a print run limted to 100 copies (I have #17), the book goes into full release in July). all in all, a good but exhausting day at the show. -M

@mrp -- You were very fortunate to get that JLA book there -- I've always wanted that book but unable to find a copy at a reasonable price and condition matters to me. Nice haul that you've got there.

^Love me some treasury comics...are the stories in the Ghosts one new or reprints from the series? I am not sure as I haven't had a chance to go through it yet. THe GCD gives reprint credits for some of the stories, but not others, so I would guess based on that it is a mix of reprints with a few new stories. This particular dealer had a box of treasury sized stuff (I have bought a bunch from him before) for $5-$10 a pop. There were some Marvel Treasuries, some of the Dc Limited Collector's Editions (the series these two came from), and a couple of Famous First Editions among the batch. Unfortunately I didn't find the box until I was on my way out the door and most of my budget was gone, so all I got was the 2 volumes of Stearnko's History and those 2 DC Limited Collector's Editions I posted. This dealer is at every Jim & Dan show (plus others I have been too-he's the one I got my Bernie Wrightson Frankenstein and Savage Tales #1 from), and he usually has a bunch of affordable treasuries with him, so I get a few every show just about. -M
