Well, I hadn't planned on spending any money on classic comics today, but the best laid plans don't always come to pass. I went out hunting for Magic the Gathering cards and wound up at a pair of hobby shops here in Western PA that are owned by the same two guys in towns about 30 miles apart. They have a large selection of games, miniatures, sports cards, and comic books, and I took some time to dig through the $1 bins.
At the first one, I got: Detective Comics #612 - this is the first issue of Detective Comics I've ever bought. It features Catman and Catwoman teaming up against Bats. The Flash #340 - one of my goals in 2019 was to buy some pre-Crisis Flash, so I started a bit early.
I also got the True Believers ($1) reprint of Amazing Spider-Man #129, since I'm never going to shell out the cash for a real one.
At the sister store, I got: Dazzler #16 - not a huge Dazzler fan, but it has The Enchantress on the cover, and I like her as a villain.
The big purchase was 22 issues of the Mike Grell Green Arrow series between issues #3 and #28, all for $1 each. I've heard good things about the series, I'm interested in the character from watching "Arrow" on TV, and it's Mike Grell, so it's probably better than a lot of things out there.
I also grabbed some books for resale (all $1 each), including the Night Nurse reprint collection, Midnight Sons Unlimited #9 (Alex Ross cover, stories inside by Dan Slott and Steve Gerber), Ghost Rider #91 (near the end of the series, low print run), and Francis, Brother of the Universe (really good condition)

I was delighted. I've since had it graded and I don't think he's ever seen the result: I suggested that the book be assigned a pedigree ("From the collection of Prince Hal"), but CBCS balked. Go figure. Thank you anyway, sweet Prince!

Absolutely the final Purchases for 2018. I made my way to a comic store and was able to get 5 more Thors. Now I only need 6 more for a straight run from 193-502

This is a scan of the actual cover I'd actually rank those three stories on the cover as some of the greatest Superman tales out there. Easily in the top twenty. What a great find!

I traded a couple of comics I picked up at the charity auction at Champion City this past October (Thanos 13 Venom variant & the 1st appearance of the Batman Who Laughs) that were part of a lot I got for something else in it for a small pile of DC Star Trek back issues at my lcs this afternoon. From the '84 DC series I picked up the following: #1, 9, 13, 24, 25, 27, 33, 37-40, 42. I had always been curious about that series as it came out when I was in high school, but I had a limited comics budget and super-heroes had a higher priority at the time, so only had an issue or 2. I picked up a bunch at the Bell. Book warehouse sale last month, and with this small lot added tot hat, I've got a nice start to getting the series.

And my late-2018/early-2019 buying spree continued yesterday, as I stopped by my LCS to grab the two True Believers issues of Conan, only to find a bunch of early Grell Green Arrow books in the bargain bins. Picked up 13 of them for a total of $18.75, so between last Saturday and yesterday, I now have 36 of the first 38 issues.
My usual path would be to continue buying the series unabated, but with this one, I'm just going to get the two issues I'm missing (#1 and #30), then read what I own. If I like it, I will pick additional issues as I find them for cheap, but only a year at a time. That way, I don't buy something and find I don't like it once I finally get around to reading it.

The Captain, The busted ankle put the Kibosh on my trip to the warehouse sale in Pittsburgh. Yeah, I kind of figured that would be the case. Maybe this fall (they do it again in September) if you're up to it. If you have a list of stuff you were going to be looking for if you'd made it, send it to me and if I make it up there, maybe I can put together a little "get well" package for you.

Do you have the Longbow Hunters mini by Grell? It sets up the status quo for the run you are picking up. -M

You are indeed the Captain. It's okay , I really bought too much stuff the last 2 years that has gone unread. Maybe I can polish off a few hundred while I'm vegetating.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Just got back from Europe, and boy, are my arms tired! Or something. Anyway, for a souvenir, I found these in a comic book store in Vienna.
