Went to my lcs today and as I finished a thunderstorm was moving in, not wanting to drive home through it, I went over to a little used book store in the same village, which has a decent selection of back issues and waited out the storm going through their quarter and dollar bins.
As the deluge came down, I dug out the following...
from the 25 cent bins...
DC Special #25 (featuring the 3 Musketeers & Robin Hood stories)
American Century 13-15, 17 (I have the 2 trade collections that were released, but the rest of the series was never collected, so picked up a handful of those issues)
Crusades 11-14, 16 (another Vertigo series I have the first bit off, but never got around to getting the rest)
The Filth 1-8, 10-12 (I remember getting the first 2-3 issues of these as they came out, but took a hiatus and never read the rest, so when I saw all but 1 issue in the discount bin, I grabbed them)
Prince Valiant (Marvel Select series) 4 (gorgeous Kaluta cover)
Alien Legion (1st series) 6
Coyote 8 (1 of 3 issues I needed for the series)
Comic Reader (fanzine) 191 (Space Ghost cover), 198 (Nick Fury cover)
Crossfire 4 (Evanier & Spiegle series I pick up issues whenever I find them on the cheap)
Dark Horse Presents 94, 96 (slowly working on this series)
from the dollar bins
more Crossfire from Evanier & Spiegle, this time 5, 6, 8, 15
Ghost Rider (90s series) 71, 73, 75, 84 (these later issues are not always easy to find, not worth anything, but not easy to find)
Catwoman (2002 series) 15, 17-19, 27
Action Comics Weekly 604
Weird Western Tales 22, 36, 40
All Star Western 3
Marvel Spotlight 29 (Moon Knight)
Marvel Chillers 6 (Tigra)
Real Adventures of Jonny Quest 5 (the Dark Horse series based on the 90s revival animated series)
I picked up a few other things from their regular bins as well, they were having a March special of 25% off all regular priced Marvel back issues (not dollar or quarter bin stuff), but I only picked up 1 Marvel book...
Dune #1 the adaptation of the movie with a gorgeous Sienkewicz cover. I have issue 2, so just need the 3rd issue now. I have been trying to pick these up and have bid on the lot of 3 a few times in recent Lonestar auctions, but the set has gone for upwards of $20 each time I have seen it, which is more than I want to pay for it, especially since I already had a copy of #2. #1 was priced at $4, but after discount was $3, which is about as much as I wanted to spend per issue.
The other books I picked up was
Border Worlds 2, 3, 6 and the Border Worlds: Marooned one-shot. This was one of these short lived 80s indy sci-fi series I had gotten a few of the issues of (1,4 and 5) and wanted the rest, but never see them anywhere at shows or shops. They had 4 of the 5 I needed to finish the series (I still need #7) at $3 each, which considering how long these have been on my radar and I have never seen any copies before this, I was willing to pay.
I also looked through their science fiction section and picked up a couple of paperbacks.
They had a copy of Robert E. Howard's Almuric with a gorgeous Ken Kelly cover...
I already had a different edition of Almuric, the Planetary Stories edition published by Paizo that is a larger (not quite trade sized) paperback, but I didn't have this Kelly cover and it was only a buck, so I snagged it.
I also snagged a Perry Rhodan volume I didn't have (#17 the Venus Trap) and one of the Pinnacle Doctor Who novelizations (Dr. Who and the Doomsday Weapon) for $3 each.
Our local Half Price Books is only an exit down the road form that village, and they are running a coupon sale this week, so I poked in and got a copy of Will Eisner's New York: The Big City with my 30% off coupon. It's one of a handful of Eisner volumes I had at one point but lent out and never got back before I moved from CT to Ohio 16 years ago, and I hadn't gotten around to replacing some of them yet, so when I saw it there today, I grabbed it. I also got one newer trade, the first volume of the Scott Snyder Justice League series which I had picked up the first issue but not the rest of the series and wanted to check out how it read.
