So, I just won a few TPBs on eBay that I've been wanting to read for ages (and for a reasonable price too). The first lot was both volumes of Darwyn Cooke's The New Frontier, which gets lots of love from various folks in the forum. I'm generally much more of a "Marvel guy" than a DC one, but I'm hoping this mini-series will be as enjoyable as everyone says it is. The other lot I won is volumes 1 and 2 of Neil Gaiman's Sandman. I've heard so much good stuff about this series on these boards and the internet as a whole. Plus, in real life, a very good friend of mine who is a big comics fan, and who's opinion I trust, cites Sandman as probably the best comic series ever. I really hope that it lives up to the hype and that the first two volumes grip me.

I haven't read the comics but I just watched the feature-length animated movie of it the other day and was underwhelmed; seemed like yet another universe reboot (or prelude to one) and about a third is just re-writing with minor alterations Hal Jordan's origin as Green Lantern. The comic must be a lot better; it certainly looks nice and late '50s-early '60s. The Blackhawk squadron appearance in the movie seemed to stick way out for me, didn't work well, but The Challengers fit in a little better... glad I didn't buy the DVD, not something I imagine wanting to watch again. Be interested in knowing your opinion on the comics.

I've assembled the nine "Justice Society Returns" comics of May 1999 after enjoying the ten issues circa 1992-93. I've just skimmed through them and not read as yet, though I noticed Russ Heath art on the one-shot with Hawkman and Wildcat... bonus! I doubt I will be going on to buying JSA #1 etc. but you never know. Also assembling but not yet all here are Super-Team Family #11-13 (do I need #14?), and added DC Super Stars #18 to go with #16 & 17, and ordered the newly released (in English) Yoko Tsuno (#14).

Also assembling but not yet all here are Super-Team Family #11-13 (do I need #14?), Ooh, team-up books! Yeah, 14 finishes the Jean Palmer crazy storyline which started in # 11. Plus it has Wonder Woman, the Atom, and the Secret Society of Super-Villains. I thought it was really cool to see the SSoV as antagonists.

I know you are in Marvel and I'm sad to learn that Mr. Cooke died so soon back in 2016 and I considered this is my favorite work that he done. I'm a big fan of this and always will be. I'm glad that you had a chance to enjoy it. This is truly a masterpiece for all of us to treasure and I enjoyed the animated film as well.

I read a bit of it and it was really good. I have to get back to finishing it. I am also a "Marvel guy" so some of it didn't keep my interest.

I really love that Ron Marz run on Green Lantern. It was one of the first monthly books I ever had saved for me at a LCS.

I had almost the entire run except the last year or so. I sold off lots of my collection in the early 2000’s to make ends meet.

I only have three modern GL/Kyle Raynor comics... haven't even read two of them yet! Adding to my '70s collection I did find Super-Team Family #14 (and added Invaders #24 and Superboy & the Legion #222).

In a recent Lonestar auction, I put what I thought was a ridiculously low bid on an original Red Sonja sketch, and ended up winning it, so I picked up a few things to round out the order. Here's the Sonja sketch... Nice sketch! I was thinking of Red Sonja this week as well, and despite complaining about the idiocy of her having two first appearances, I picked up both recently in order to address the dearth of Barry Smith's work in my collection. Savage Tales #1 and Avengers #98 have been the only other examples of his art that I own. #23 is in VF/NM; #24 is NM and was comic story of the year in 1973, my first year as a comics reader.
