Sunday was the 10th year for Champion City Comic Con here in town, and I spent the afternoon before work digging through stuff and attending the charity auction finding a bunch of stuff to take home with me... First a couple of volumes of Hal Foster Tarzan... and a little bit of Batmania... the lunchbox was from the charity auction and the paperback is a novelization of the Adam West Batman feature film... -M Those Tarzan books are sweet. And can be pretty expensive. I've got that lunchbox somewhere. I honestly can't remember its vintage, so it was either purchased at the height of '89 Batmania and is in a box somewhere or it was bought for one of my sons and is hanging around the house. The Tarzan volumes were only $10 each, and I snagged them as soon as I saw them. The Ellison volume came from the same dealer. -M

Has anyone been picking up the facsimile editions Marvel & DC have been putting out recently? I got Spider-Woman #1, Marvel Feature (Defenders) #1, and the two O'Neil/Adams Batman issues #232 & 251 (1st appearance of Ra's al Ghul, and a Joker story). I like the format of the DC ones a bit better; while they are not on the old newsprint, the paper is closer to that than the pure white glossy of the Marvels. So you get a feel of the old comic but with better print quality. At $3.99-4.99 each it's still much cheaper than buying the originals!

I used to have the King Prince Valiant comic... it was an unusual comic... made for schools? I miss it and the King Flash Gordons I managed to find, so many of the best artists to grace the format at the time! Of the facsimiles the only ones I've ordered are Batman #181 & 251, Giant-Size X-Men #1 and Incr. Hulk #181... and I'm really hoping to stop there. I do have a lot of those 80 Page Giant annuals DC put out a decade plus ago... Flash, Green Lantern, Teen Titans, Brave & Bold, Plastic Man, Secret Origins... some were real, like the Flash one came out in 1963, but some were made up, a what if they had done an annual for ___________. I would've liked a '60s style Doom Patrol annual (but they didn't do that one so far as I know). I may never get the Wonder Woman one as they seem to be priced higher, and the sequel Secret Origins (More and Even More) I don't want or need at all.

BTW, when I took the reprints up to the counter (I also bought a couple graphic novels that were not so old) the store owner joked "Who needs new comics??"

@taxidriver1980 - I don't know, but that seems like a lot for a used box of cereal

Just in the '70s... Starfire #1-8. Warlord #3. Superboy & Legion #226 (Dawnstar). Teen Titans #53. Phantom Stranger #38 (joining #39-41). DC Super Stars #5 (Flash issue). Avengers #121 & 122. Amaz. Spider-Man #191. Defenders #23-25 & 30 (I had the Guardians issues already) and 41 & 61. Captain America #171. Fantastic Four #150 (I think I mentioned these last two already). That's quite a few, I think maybe that's it for me for the rest of the year at least.

I decided to record a short video for my Crimebusters social media channels showing some of the back issues I've gotten so far this year. I had to keep it at 1 minute for dumb social media reasons, so a lot of cool books got left out, but it's a bit of an overview anyway. I've been letting these pile up for basically the whole year because I just didn't want to deal with the hassle of getting them catalogued and sorted, but the time has come.

Half Price Books is having their coupon sale this week, so I stopped by and picked up these 2 collections... The Batman Dailies from the 1943-1946 run of the newspaper strips, and... the first Showcase volume of the Unknown Soldier. -M

After a week of looking at it on ebay and swithering about whether to buy it or not I decided that my wife was giving me this for Christmas: I've never heard of this. I will have to look for it, as usually the books in the Histoires Fantastiques collection are pretty good.

This is Vol 2- I don't have Vol 1 HINT! HINT!*. I just love the way M. Forest draws. And yes, the Few Histoires Fantastiques I do have are all good.
*Just in case any of my kids is kibitzing.

^ That's the artist who also worked on Barbarella, non? If there's one thing I could be great at, it's kibitzing.

Oui, c'est le meme designateur et il l'ecrite le scenario, aussi - comme Barbarella.
Jeso! My French is awful. (I read it much better than I write.) Yes, he writes it too, same as Barbarella. I was pleased to see, the other day, that one of my favourite lines from the film "What's that screaming? A good many dramatic situations begin with screaming!" comes straight from the original book.

Your French is pretty good Junkmonkey, don't be ashamed of it! ( My wife doesn't like when I correct her French, but I think it's a great way to learn, so for your benefit : Oui, c'est le même dessinateur, et il a aussi écrit le scénario, comme Barbarella.)
