I had one Weird Western Jonah Hex and liked it enough that I tried the early '80s then current editions of his comic, but then it got cancelled on me! Arrgh. Definitely up there with Enemy Ace: someone/something very visual without being superheroes (or talking animals).
I'm putting Thor #221 & 222 on my 'list', but I'll probably never have as long and unbroken a run as I've manged with a few other titles. Right now I have #223-234, 241-258, and then a smattering few after that plus a couple of annuals. Oh, and a mini-run for #19-25, 30 and Annual 2000 for the much later run.

Not my purchace but Daughter Number One came home yesterday with a copy of the Complete MAUS she bought in a charity shop for two quid. I'll be allowed to read it when she's finished.

Here are some of my recent classic pickups. A local shop had a half off sale on their non-wall books recently, so most of these came from that sale. The FF 90-93 story about the Thing being enslaved and forced to fight just looks like a really cool story arc to me, so that's next on my reading list. That Avengers 151 had such a cool cover that I had to have it, but it ended up being a mediocre read sadly.

Here's what the original pencils looked like, interesting the differences... Iron Man's face and Cap's hand are the biggest changes... Here is a cool 'one minute later' addition by Barry Kitson...

I got one of the 'Identity Crisis' Spider-Man comics with the extra cover (The Hornet one, and to be honest I almost wanted to remove it as the 'regular' Spider-Man one under is ever better), so of course now I'm hooked on that! Luckily Lone Star... ordered the others... Amazing Spider-Man 434 & 435 Peter Parker Spider-Man 91 & 92 Sensational Spider-Man 28 Spectacular Spider-Man 257 & 258 Slingers 1

So the first of two orders I placed with Lonestar (the second of which was to take advantage of their Booksgiving sale, which they announced the day after I had placed this order) arrived in today's post. No earth shattering keys or anything, just a few things of interest and plugging a few holes. The first book was one I did not know existed until I stumbled upon it on their site-Dragon's Teeth #1, the only issue of a magazine sized anthology produced. What caught my eye was a story by Alex Toth and an interview with Jim Steranko, so I took a flyer and picked up the book... I also really like Lela Dowling's fantasy art and Rick Geary is a draw as well. The cover by Frank Cirocco was eye-catching as well. Here's a full look at the table of contents... I love these kinds of odd anthologies that feature work by creators I am into that popped up in the dawn of the direct market. None seemed to last long, but they all have stories I am glad to own. I also finished off my Ms Tree collection with the last two issue of the DC Quarterly series I did not own... picked up another of the Detective issues that had Hawkman back ups... and picked up a chunk of the NBM volumes collecting Milton Canniff's Terry and the Pirates the NBM series collected the entire Terry run in 25 volumes, I now have 15 of them, including the first 13, so I have a little over half the Terry run now. -M

I haven't read beyond the Eclipse/Renegade stuff yet, so I don't know what the DC quarterly issues did with the status quo of the character. But the cover certainly seems to imply that.. -M

Lela Dowling did a great logo for Lone Star they used to use in ads... A similar book with some of the same creators involved was Voyages (circa 1983), you might want to find that if you dug Dragon's Teeth and don't already have it!

I seem to remeber Toth and Rick Geary showing up in severakl of these oddball anthologies in the 70s. I think they were both doing work that the majors didn't know what to do with, so they became available to others.

I took advantage of a big sale at one of the LCS on Saturday to celebrate Local Comic Shop Day to do a little damage to my want list (and my wallet): Main purchases were replacements for beat-up issues in my collection, all at 70% off asking price, including: Captain America #172 for $3 (my copy has a detached bottom staple) and moving me one book closer to having all Fine+ issues in my collection Iron Man #118 for $5.40 (my copy has really bad spine roll) Power Man & Iron Fist #79, Spider-Woman #7, and Invaders #7 (the $.30 variant, no less), all for $.90 each (my copies are all in various states of poor condition) I also finally got The Book I Wasn't Allowed to Have (I wrote about it here, Second Day of Classic Comics Christmas 2014) for $.75, righting a long-standing wrong. As well, I savaged the $1 bins, where everything was marked down to $.25 apiece, picking up: Green Arrow #39 - 49 and #52 - 66 (the Mike Grell series) Fury of Firestorm #6, 8 - 11, 13 - 15, 19, 22, and 37 Suicide Squad #5 and 41 The Flash #287, 295, 296, 298, 341, 349, and 350 (the last pre-Crisis issue) Batman: Holy Terror Avengers/Squadron Supreme Annual 1998 Hercules mini-series, including issue #3 signed by Bob Layton Marvel Fanfare #36 Marvel Two-in-One #15 (replacement for a poor condition copy already in my collection) Namor, the Sub-Mariner #10-12 (John Byrne series, story arc with Master Man and Nazis)
