My LCS has (had? haven't looked in a couple months) a run of Vicky issues. I think they even had a nice #4. But they know what theyre doing, and none of them were cheap, so I passed. I think the #4 was maybe $80?

The first of my Christmas squanderings arrived yesterday: filling a gap in my Thorgal collection That Thorgal album is incredible. It's like a horror comic.

I was able to find this for less than $15 w/ shipping and it arrived the other day. Plan to dive in this weekend:

I visited the comic shop near my office yesterday afternoon to dig through their Magic:The Gathering cards, but I found that they had a number of new long boxes full of $5 used TPBs, so I spent some of my Christmas money from my parents on the following:
*Hellblazer "Haunted" and "Setting Sun", which collect Warren Ellis' work on the title (issues 134 - 143) *Showcase Presents: Wonder Woman, v2, which collects Silver Age issues #118 - 137 *Diana Prince, Wonder Woman, which collects Silver Age issues 190 - 198 and World's Finest Comics #208 *Wonder Woman "Challenge of the Gods", "Beauty and the Beasts", and "Destiny Calling", which collect issues #8 - 24 and Annual #1 of George Perez' run on the book
Funny thing about these being in the "used TPB" boxes is that none of the spines on any of the books appear to have ever been cracked (especially the Wonder Woman books). These were probably part of an inventory that this store bought when another shop was going out of business (the owner travels all over the country buying up failing shops' stuff for pennies on the dollar) and they just put them cheap out to move them.
In other news, I have a line on the last "grail" book that I would consider buying. My friend who owns the LCS I have been shopping at for 30 years was pricing a collection over the weekend and let me look through the first long box, which had some great Silver and Bronze Age books in it; it went from Action to Iron Man. There were a number of nice double-digit Spideys, Cap #117 and 118 (truth be told, my copies are in better condition, but someone will get decent grade books), and some fairly early DD, FF, Hulk, and Iron Man issues. I asked if the other box had a Werewolf by Night #32 in it, and he said no...
...but he had recently bought another collection that DID have a copy of it. He said it needed to be pressed and that it was in Fine condition overall, and after I asked, he said he would let me look at it (it was offsite at the time) first before he put it out for sale and would give me first crack at buying it if I wanted it (he's done this for me before with some other books from other collections). While I wasn't planning on picking up this book at this point (I'm sure Marvel is going to do a True Believers or facsimile version of it before the TV show comes out), I just made a lot of profit selling off a couple boxes of Magic cards, so if I want to pull the trigger on it, I have the funds available from my other venture.

I love good deals on nice "pre-loved" or overstock trades. It's a cheap way to read stuff (a) that you already own in floppy format, but don't want to deal with/damage potentially valuable books, and (b) that you don't have, but are interested in the character or story arc.

To paraphrase a hackneyed old saying— “It’s a Charlton thing... you wouldn’t understand.”
Collecting Charlton books is sometimes like collecting old cars, there’s plenty of ugly ones and weird ones, but you love them all the same for their peculiarities.
Besides, “Go-Go” is an example of what you get when you pay the lowest page rate in the industry.

Charlton was quite well known for simply reusing interior art and enlarging it for the cover and pasting other panels as inserts onto the cover. Why pay for a cover if you already have art handy that is already bought and paid for? Talk about your cost saving measures!!!

That’s why they no longer exist.

That’s why they no longer exist. I think the mafia just got tired of publishing Flintstone comics.
