There are some Severin American Eagle's reprinted in the AC comics Best of the West issues. Looking forward to those!

Been a long time since I was this excited to make new classic comic purchases. It's GREAT to be this invested in a vintage run again. Life With Archie is probably the best all around Archie title ever. Just a smidge more reality/seriousness than most of the other titles.
Of course, that's just one man's opinion. Make that two 👍🏻

Glad you are enjoying yourself in the deep dive classic treasure hunt Shax! The last 2 years have been gloriously fun and the most pleasurable for me digging around through the Con $1 boxes and through Internet shopping for the classic/old war and western comics I missed out on during my youth. Alongside picking up my Valerian and Corto Maltese books and the AC Comics black and white reprints of golden age westerns and mystery men comic this is another "golden years" time of collecting for. Reinvigorated and happier than ever for reading never seen before comics. Who needs new when there is so much past glory to find?!?

I called a place that I frequent in NJ that has about 40 long boxes that contain dollar comics. They are open but only for curbside pickup.

Nothing for me this week. The only two parcels to arrive were the "lost & found" from Lone Star and Anthony's Comic Book Art, which arrived after the refund and made a U-turn. To compensate, next week I'm expecting my biggest box yet: 54 comics! I still have 3 books that are missing in action. One of them for over 30 days. With those two out of the way, my oldest order is now one from the Uk that's also over a month. This is a lot for the UK, I don't recall a single one taking even three weeks, unless the seller really procrastinated when shipping. I called a place that I frequent in NJ that has about 40 long boxes for a buck each. They are open but only for curbside pickup. At that price, I would take all 40 of them :-)

If it's the former, then yeah, they will keep until you get there... but if it's the latter, go rent a U-haul and a storage unit TODAY! and get those boxes!
In my experience, Dollar bins are 85% crap and 15% "goldmine"... of course it's that 15% that makes digging through them 100% fun!

Reading the Moon Knight epic volume, which is mostly his appearances before his series.... funny how different the character is in each one... they really only had the visual down at first.
The Defenders story arc his was in (With Scorpio) was in there too... boy, was early Keith Giffen doing his very best Kirby! Amazing how different that is in style to he later stuff.

The Defenders story arc his was in (With Scorpio) was in there too... boy, was early Keith Giffen doing his very best Kirby! Amazing how different that is in style to he later stuff. Yes, a very different Moon Knight prior to Hulk Magazine issue #13, when Sienkiewicz began to revise the look of the character and Doug Moench fleshed out Marc Spector's background. At that point, the character really began to take shape. The earlier stuff in Werewolf by Night, Marvel Spotlight, Marvel Preview #21 and the Defenders' Scorpio Saga simply didn't provide enough space for the character to develop beyond a former "villain/anti-hero-for-hire".
What's even more interesting are the takes on the character after Marc Spector, Moon Knight #60. The character went through some really drastic personality changes between 1998 and 2017. Each writer approached him quite differently.
The first series (1980) is still my favorite iteration of MK, but that's probably because that's what was in print when I was in college and buying every MK-related book I could find. Even so, I did like Giffen's work on Defenders, but that's probably due to a subconscious connection between those books and my love for Kirby's work.

I have a few of those late issue in the series... I remember for a while he was practically an Iron Man clone, then there was some weird stuff where he was some sort of Moon demon or something. Poor guy, for a character with such a cool look, you'd think someone could do something with him.

Sticking with my recent Love & Rockets purchases, as deatailed upthread, I also purchased these two recently:
Perla la Loca I ordered from a seller on Amazon UK (the mail's getting back to normal, by the way - it took about 3 weeks to arrive, instead of almost month and a half), while I bought Esperanza at a local foreign language bookstore, just to give them some business once they reopened (most pandemic-related restrictions have been lifted here in Croatia, as the curve was flattened pretty quickly).

I made another video chronicling my back issues purchases. Mostly romance, Archie, and Patsy Walker:

Ordered a few more of those True Believers plus Defenders ('70s) #21 & 22 I saw at nice enough prices in nice enough condition. Still, with postage these things add up and I will have to tighten the belt again now. So I'll have a mini run of Defenders #21-30 to go with #45-61, and #15 & 16 (& 41). I tried the Erik Larsen relaunch of 2001 for three issues but three's company enough for that run I suspect. I had one Patsy & Hedy with the Atlas logo on it, but I don't think I personally ever had any other titles like those unless one '40s Cindy counts (somehow that seemed very different). I had various old Archies, hard to remember specifics, but a couple had that somehow heavier almost stenciled '50s look to Betty & Veronica (which Elder made fun of how similar they were other than hair color in Mad). The stories were often surprisingly clever; great character pieces! Patsy Walker and Millie I can't say I've ever read enough to know. I'd probably go for late '60s ones if they went mod or something like DC's Swing With Scooter.

I actually got out for a little while on Saturday, as things are starting to open back up in Western PA, and I bought comics! First store I visited, an actual comic book shop, I picked up the What If? #24, leaving me just 4 short of the whole run. As for the Sub-Mariner issues, that isn't a series I am actively collecting, but at just $5 each and both in really nice shape, I laid out the cash at one of our local antique malls. My last stop for the day was one of our oldest LCS in the city, one I used to visit 35 years ago with my grandmother a few times a year (she felt guilty because she, an art teacher, took my younger sister to art lessons at the local museum, so on the Saturdays between the 8-week class sessions, she would take me out for lunch and then to get comic books). They had three long boxes of Bronze Age goodies, and like Sub-Mariner, I'm not actively collecting Captain Marvel but at $2 apiece and also in really good shape, I wasn't just going to leave them there.

Some of the volumes I ordered have started to arrive. The Hamilton order arrived, plus one of the Amazon books. The last 2 volumes of Spirit Archives put out by DC, the dailies and the post-Spirit supplement material. One of the volumes of JackKatz's First Kingdom and a collection of Gil Kane essays/interviews/panel transcriptions/conversations... waiting for the rest of my retail therapy to arrive. -M
