I had to get those two Annuals to complete the original Warlock 'saga', had never had the Two-In-One except as a reprint before. I think I was lucky to get them at a sane price before some movie spiked them higher. I had something come from Rotterdam quite quickly with not too expensive postage cost, it surprised me! This reminds me, a question for anyone... were there Marvel U.K. pence editions of the '70s Marvel annuals? Did they say 'all-colour' anywhere? I have never seen one. I wonder if they even made it over what with the hardcover books being Annuals there. I see hardcover Avengers 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978 Annuals.

I bought the 3 Warlock issues and the 2 annuals because of Thanos. This story is more interesting than the original one in Captain Marvel, and more than the rest of the Warlock series. Don't get me wrong, Magus was an OK character, but Thanos was way more cool as a villain.
Now that you mention it, I don't think I've seen any square bound annual printed in the UK. I'm sure someone will confirm (or deny) and even give an explanation as to why. Probably a technical thing.

I guess I must like Thanos too as I even got that Logan's Run #6 with the short Mike Zeck story with Thanos in the back about the same time (it is included in the True Believers: Thanos The First reprint of Iron Man #55 too though).

With Doctor Doom, the best Marvel villain up to that point (unless I misremember). A pity they ruined him, in the last two Avengers movies, most people know him as this silly character who goes to all that trouble, for.. what exactly? What was his long-term goal? Starlin's creation was a mad guy, pure and simple, you don''t have to explain mad.

Movie Thanos actually has a motivation for doing things. Comic book Thanos is just another jerk.

I made another video with some of my recent purchases. This time I had some shipping issues, plus a couple of comics that showed up smelling like the Red Skull's dust of death

And another: I'm really liking these albums and the prices are ridiculously cheap. This one worked out at about a penny a page - delivered. The only things (apart from my faltering French) that spoil my total ejoyment of them is the way the comics have been cropped slightly during the binding process. After being made into blocks the magazines are obviously trimmed again (after having been cropped once as magazines) which leaves marginalia perilously close to - and sometimes disappearing off - the edge of the page. And... Some of the casual racism that floats by. The Franco-Belge comic style, based as it is in caricature and exaggeration, has always had a bit of a problem depicting BAME characters without falling into gross stereotypes. Sometimes they get it right, strong black characters or inter-racial relationships that work out but sometimes they get it wrong and it gets a little uncomfortablemaking.

Worshipping death was weird and wouldn’t have worked in the cinema.

Been a long time since I was this excited to make new classic comic purchases. It's GREAT to be this invested in a vintage run again. Dang if you haven't started something Shaxper. Been looking through Mike's Amazing World at the Life With Archie Covers choosing some for screen savers at work and the old "itch" for classic stuff never experienced has begun to annoy me. I never bought any Archie comics growing up and what I buy now are the 500 and 1000 page collections. Owning some individual Archie would be nice to have. The earliest LWA are way out of my price range for collecting but around issue 51 forward the series becomes more affordable with lots of listings in my penny pinching Scrooge McDuck range from $2-6. Nothing fancy, simple old worn abused comic books deserving of a loving home where they will be attentively read and adored. You just may start seeing these popping up from me in a few months...

Happy to spread the joy! And, if you wait patiently, you can find many of those early LwA issues extremely cheap, as there are still folks out there who believe only superhero comics are worth anything. They show up in lots on ebay all the time. I paid $50 for the first issue (still a tremendous discount), and got the rest for $6-$30 a piece. If I'd been more patient, I'm sure I could have found them for even less.

Does this make you good ol' shaxper the Covid of comic book collecting? The spreader of classic comic addiction syndrome: CCAS for short!!! Cuz' you are killing me with purchases. Most of my comic collecting had dwindled down to a mere handful of current ongoing's and the occasional TPB from Amazon. Then after joining up here in the CCF with discussions and posts about our love for comic books I find myself delving back into the back issues I missed out on over the years and/or finding goodness in the more expensive collections of newspaper strips or Omni's for series I could never afford in back issue pricing. And so the disease spreads, rampant among the community now, buy more back issues. Keep the classics alive. Show the younger generation what the past was about and encourage historical explorations of great and minor comic books. Is that the new CCF mission title? SPREAD THE CLASSIC COMIC DISEASE, BECOME INFECTED ALONGSIDE THE CCF!

I have all the essentials , they just didn’t do it for me anymore. The Essentials are a great buy, but by the time I'm done with one of those, I'm dying for some color! That's why I'm kind of glad that the Epic Collections are around, but damn if they don't go out of print fast

Today I visited a comic shop in New Jersey that I used to frequent about once or twice a month. Of course the Pandemic came along and I haven't been there since maybe February. Today they were allowed to have customers actually enter the premises and I took a dive into their long boxes that have dollars comics. When I got to the cashier, I decided to put a comic that was really rough with writing on the cover , back. The woman that was ringing me up told me I could still have it because they had a special - Buy 5 books get 5 books free. Well, I took that book and dug once more to get the two more to get 20 books. 20 book for .50 cents each, not a bad days dive. First up- with a salute to Crimebuster, a few romance books.
