U make me so proud my brother from another mother! Great deal, lots of good reads and 50cents an issue is AWESOME as no shops in Phoenix do more than $1 issues & usually all classic stuff is VERY worn most po f the boxes are filled with overstock from last 10 years. Enjoy those bad boys cuz u spent more than your fair share this last year on Thor's. Some cheap entertainment is your well deserved reward Icc!

Well my first post-sheltering in place Lonestar order arrived on my porch today. Took a little longer than anticipated to arrive (it was initially estimated to arrive this past Monday, so took an extra few days to get here). First up, a book that has eluded me since I got back into comics circa 2012 after a five year hiatus, the last issue of this run and the last issues I needed to complete the run... Conan the Cimmerian #25 from Dark Horse... I paid a little more than I had wanted to, but after eight years of not seeing a copy at a shop or con anywhere within an hour or two's drive, I decided to pull the trigger when Lonestar finally got one in stock. And replacing a book in my library that I lent out and never saw again... Next up, more classic comic strips, first a collection of the first 3 years of the Superman Dailies-I have the Sundays collected form this era, and now have the dailies too... and filling in a chunk of Caniff's run of Terry and the Pirates with seven of the NBM volumes... I think that makes 22 of the 25 volumes (maybe 21, I have to check once I shelve these). Getting a little closer to completing this Charlton series... I think I need 3 more (plus one of House of Yang) I have been collecting Kubert covers for several years now, and this series has been on my radar for some time now, but I never took the plunge. Several here, most especially Crimebuster have talked up this series for a while (and again very recently) so I finally took the plunge and picked up four issue of the Son of Tomahawk run that closed out the Tomahawk series... and finally, from their weekly dollar book list, a book I didn't know existed until codystarbuck mentioned it in his Other Guys thread even though I have read a handful of the novels, the first issue of Innovation's The Executioner series... And that's a wrap. -M

Several here, most especially Crimebuster have talked up this series for a while (and again very recently) so I finally took the plunge and picked up four issue of the Son of Tomahawk run that closed out the Tomahawk series... For me, Robert Kanigher and Frank Thorne (the interior artist on this run) are both hit-or-miss in their work-- Kanigher sometimes comes off too heavy-handed with the morality plays, and often treats his female characters as if they all had 1950's suburban housewives mentality. Frank Thorne can be good... very good, when he feels like it.
That being said, in the case of Son of Tomahawk, his artwork isn't too terribly "Frank Thorne-ish", and holds up pretty well. I think this run is also some of Kanigher's best-ever scripting (only mild heavy-handedness in some issues). Overall, this is one of my favorite silver/bronze-age western runs, and the Kubert covers are some of his best western work ever. Sigh.... if ONLY they had tagged Kubert to do the interiors as well!
Oh, and very nice pickup on that Eisner graphic novel... it's one that's definitely worth replacing.

Today I visited a comic shop in New Jersey that I used to frequent about once or twice a month. Of course the Pandemic came along and I haven't been there since maybe February. Today they were allowed to have customers actually enter the premises and I took a dive into their long boxes that are have dollars comics. When I got to the cashier, I decided to put a comic that was really rough with writing on the cover back. The woman that was ringing me up told me I could still have it because they had a special - Buy 5 books get 5 books free. Well, I took that book and dug once more to get the two more to get 20 books. 20 book for .50 cents each, not a bad days dive. First up- with a salute to Crimebuster , a few romance books. That's a great Sparling cover on Girls' Romances #138. I've been a romance book collector for a while now. Heck, I pretty much collect all genres, and there's some killer artwork in many romance titles-- Jack Sparling, Wally Wood, Matt Baker and Jay Scott Pike are my personal favorite artists when it comes to romance books, But even Kirby and Cardy did pretty decent work in the genre. I pretty much draw the line at the late-era Infantino work though-- to me, almost all of his late-70's/early 80's work gives everybody rugby football-shaped heads with cartoonish facial features. Nice little cache of books you got there, at a very nice price too!

brother from another mother I just now thought of 'sister from another mister'. I wonder if I'll ever use it though. Oh... added Daredevil #162-164... never read #164 before and read the other two a long time ago now. Like The Defenders I seemed to have trouble finding the title regularly back then and would miss every third issue or so. Also some Superboy & Legion from #227 onward having gotten as far as #226, but they may take longer as they would be coming from outside Canada.

The Essentials are a great buy, but by the time I'm done with one of those, I'm dying for some color! That's why I'm kind of glad that the Epic Collections are around, but damn if they don't go out of print fast I hear you on this. I just overspent on the Amazing Spider-Man Epic that collects issues #105 - 123, but it was still the cheapest I'd seen for it in a long while. Now I just need Volume 3, which collects #39-52 and Annuals #3 & 4, which is going for around $100; if I could find it on Amazon, I would buy it, as I have some gift card money left over from a few years ago, but I'm not paying that kind of cash for it. The next Fantastic Four Epic comes out next week, collecting issues #68 - 87 and Annual #6. My LCS will be pulling one for me, as I've started requesting the ones I want to ensure I don't miss them. I will also be getting the Conan the Barbarian Epic in July, which collects the first 13 issues.

These 40 cent covers were my favourites of the time. I bought a whole run of these some time ago, including the 12p-15p pence covers from the UK

Those Epic books are a godsend. I agree! The Epic collection program is by far the best collection of old stuff Marvel (or DC) have done... I loved the essentials at the time, but having the actual color for only about 50% more is great. They do a good job including everything, too. Made my first classic comic purchase in a while, inspired by telling Shax to read them... I realized I don't actually own a bunch of the Avengers from 200-230... I borrowed some I was missing when I read them. The lot I got was 212 214 215 216 217 219 220 221 I had made an offer on the lot.. offering 1/2 price for 1/2 the lot, and the guy accepted only a couple dollar more, and still sent the whole thing.. so I got a couple nice duplicates to trade/give out. Also, it was kinda neat that the packing used a bit of a Barron's from 1987, so that was fun to look at too!

Well, I sat on my ass too long with the first Cap Epic Collection because Volume 1 of the Essentials had more issues and now it's $49. It'd honestly just be more cost effective to get the first Cap Omnibus at this point (all I really want is the 60's Kirby stuff). That's what I did with Howard because of the Complete Collection series. Thought about just getting 1 thru 3 of the Masterworks but 2 is out of print or about to be

Monday, an order from the 4th: I was initially looking for this one, but since this UK seller had previously offered me a good deal on the FF omnibus, I negotiated the same deal for the Miles ultimate collection (£50 for the lot of them, no added postage). Tuesday I got three envelopes, all Royal Mail standard: Ordered on the 3rd. With these, I finished Straczynski's run, as well as my want lists for both 80's ASM and Daredevil. Ordered on the 5th. The Dreadstar I needed to complete the run, together with the ones below. The PPTSM was a whim, it was cheap and on the "maybe" list, so OK. Ordered on the 7th. I wasn't planning on buying issue 31, but it was offered for just a pound and I already felt bad for the guy, having to go to the post for just a few comics he had to let go at £1.20 (auctions can suck).
