I had the first Spider-Ham (and also the Hulk with Rocket Racoon), but sadly I traded them away to a friend into funny animals. Got a couple Thors wherein he was a frog and I forget what else back. If he still has them he probably has no idea they might be valuable. I bought at least the first few Captain Carrots too; I was an easy sell for anything remotely different and that might be at all fun. 'Mazing Man, Cap'n Quick & A Foozle, Bone, Yam... those at least I still have around somewhere. I don't think I made it beyond that one Marvel Tails with Spider-Ham though, the idea might've been more fun than the actual execution? I should've bought anything by Mark Armstrong though, Steve Mellor... not so much.
Yep, since my tastes in comics run the full gamut and I don't really cater to any one genre, I also got the Rocket Raccoon appearances, Captain Carrot, 'Mazing Man, and a few others when they came out. And I've always been a Hot Stuff fan since I was a kid... Richie Rich, not so much. I always thought of Spider-Ham as more of a novelty book, more so than Captain Carrot, in which I always thought Scott Shaw did a great job.

Vol. 21 just need volumes 23 and 25 to complete Canniff's run in the NBM edtiions. -M I've opted for the six big IDW collections, mainly because I'm so impressed with their Steve Canyon vol. 3, which I'm in the middle of right now, as compared to the earlier Kitchen Sink magazines (which were quite good themselves). But they're pricey, so I'm slowly picking them up here and there whenever I see one that is prced a little more reasonably - in relative terms, that is: even the cheapest ones are still quite expensive.
My timing is off on Steve Canyon too: I'll soon be wanting to read volume 4, but it and the next few in the IDW series seem to be out of print already and so far I haven't seen any that I consider affordable until you get up to around volume 9 or 10 - which brings the series into the 60s, when I'm not sure I'll want to continue with it or not. I definitely want to carry on with vol. 4 and ideally I would then decide volume by volume if I wanted to keep going, but it looks like I'll just have to keep my eye out and hope to find something not too crazily over-priced.

For me with strip collections, it's usually a matter of where I start. With Terry, I found a couple of the NBM volumes super cheap at a used bookstore, so that's how I went when picking up the rest of the strip. With Steve Canyon, I got a bunch of the Checkers volumes for $3 each at an Ollie's Discount store, and have been filling in on those, however that run only goes into the mid-50s, so not sure I will continue Canyon past that, or if I do, what series I will pick up. I still need a pair of the Checkers volumes though, so that decision will wait until I get those two. However sometimes it comes down to price. I found a couple of the big Fantagraphics Prince Valiant albums on the cheap at a flea market, so would like to continue with them, but those have gotten very pricey, so I am not sure how I will follow up on the PV strips, if/when I do. I usually go for more bang for your buck and less about reproduction quality when I am looking into daily strip reprints, though if I have the room in my budget, I sure wouldn't mind having some of the higher quality reproduction volumes for some of the classic strips. -M

God, how I hated Spider-Ham. This is the first time I have encountered him. It only took me about three panels for me to agree with you.

I suppose I know what to send you for the holidays... just watch out for radioactive porcine web residue.

I don't think I've ever read a Spider-Ham appearance and/or title. Funny animal stuff really isn't my thing.
I do have the Hulk issues with Rocket Raccoon. But I bought them way back when Annihilation Conquest came out and he was in the Star-Lord mini. In fact, I went back and bought every first apperance of the Star Lord team except RR. Only because I didn't know he made a cameo appearance (unnamed) Marvel Preview #7. Which was on my want list for the Santana story. But alas thanks to the MCU the going prices are so ridiculous, I may never have the entire series in my possession.

I found a surprise box of comics in my mailbox this evening when I got home from work. I hadn't ordered anything I was expecting, and when I looked at the return address it was from our very own The Captain. Inside was a note and this handful of issues of Ghost Rider from the end of the 90s series... he knew I had been trying to fill in some holes to finish off that series and had been picking them up as he saw them. It had been a pretty bad night at work, so this was a welcome surprise and lift of the spirits when I got home. A Halloween treat for sure. Thank you very much kind sir! -M edit to add: with these, I now need only 5 issues to complete that run.

I really really like that Ghost Rider series. I still have a handful of issues I need to complete it as well. I think the art was always solid throughout the various artists it had. But I am also a big Larroca fan, which was why I initally picked up the first issue I did. Though I won't lie and say if I remember whether or not his art on GR was why I became of fan of his or if I had seen his work before. I know he did some Deaths Head II but I know it was much later that I discovered that title. Either way, a great series. I especially like the GR/X-Men vs Brood issues.

I fully intended NOT to go hunting this weekend... I had convinced myself that I had other things to do. Some of what I picked up this weekend-- The Avengers books are in remarkably good condition vs. what I paid for them. I'm not trying to complete the series, but I'll pick up nice looking silver age any day if I can get a really good deal. This was such a case. However, I am trying to complete Creepy Things, Weird War Tales, and the issues of Superboy that contain a Dial H backup story. I'm very close on Creepy Things and Superboy, but I have a ways to go on Weird War Tales.
The Charlton War books were because.... well because Charlton-- and because they're from near the end of Charlton's existence, which means very low print runs.
I wasn’t familiar with Creepy Things, but coincidentally just got #’s 1 & 2. Looking forward to checking them out. Cool finding the Charlton War comics!

Went to a comic book shop for the first time in almost a year today. MRP sent me a couple ZOT! comics a few months ago and I liked them and went to find more. I was really disappointed. All the back issues the store had were recent-ish Marvel/DC comics. So no Zot! or Fantagraphic comics (another of my new obsession). I'm also really into ACG comics recently so I check their "vintage" section, but everything was way too expensive for me. Very poor condition "Unknown World" for 13-15$, and some in better condition (but not great) were over 30$.... I doubt I'll go back to a store for another year.... Still found this in the vintage section for 3$. It's Fantagraphics so at least I know there's some quality to it.

Most recent Lonestar order arrived today. Hodge podge of stuff, finishing off a couple series, and then some other stuff including... Brave & the Bold #44, I now have 4 of the 6 B&B Hawkman tryout issues (need the first two, but they might be out of my price comfort zone) Jesse James #20 (from 1954) featuring a story with Al Williamson/Frank Frazetta art Captain Action #1 and #3, completing this short series... Spirit Magazine #8 and #25 (down to needing 5 issues for the run) Star Reach #10 (mostly covered because of nudity on the cover), Sub-Human #4 by Mark Schultz (completing the 4 issue mini) and Warren's Star Quest Comix #1 with a Ken Kelly cover and a couple of stories by Corben and lastly, a pair of issues of the Gemstone reprints of Panic (#4 and #11) from their weekly dollar sale... I ended up placing this order the day I found out this year's Champion City Comic Con here in town was definitely cancelled (it was scheduled for Nov. 1) using some of the war chest I had put away for the show. -M edit to add: bonus, just found out the lead story in the Jesse James issue has art by Joe Kubert!

(...) Still found this in the vintage section for 3$. It's Fantagraphics so at least I know there's some quality to it. It's really nice book; the stories are fine, but the art is absolutely lush. In that same year, Fantagraphics also published reprints of Frazetta's Thun'da stories: Also worth picking up if you can find a reasonably priced copy.
