I've been enjoying the tone of this book a lot, it's mix of action, intrigue and humor is fantastic but the latest issue felt really off. It started en media res, which is fairly common, but it never flashed back to give us context for what was going on so it made you feel like you had missed an issue rather than giving you a sense of mystery. But more than that, it just came off as filler; Dick, Helena and Midnighter are in a desert with no water and a baby with some kind of meta heart and one by one they succumb until its just Dick and the baby and as he collapses a pair of arabs come across Dick and apparently alert the authorities to his wherabouts so that he is saved along with the others. It doesn't forward the story and didn't really do any characterization either. About the only interesting thing was that the couple who took the meta baby mirrored the kents in that they were praying for a child only to mysteriously find one and like the Kents child there's too has super powers. Given the filler story feel to the issue however I doubt this will ever turn into anything.
