I'm a big Titans fan so I was a little wary of the project when I had heard it announced, and while I really like Jeff Lemire whether its fair or not, any effort like this will inevitably be weighed against the Wolfman/Perez Teen Titans which in my mind is one of the best comic runs ever.
The main cast here consists of Cyborg, Beast Boy, Terra, Jericho, Starfire, and Raven. In this new origin story they tie the team together with a single origin story springing out of experiments done by Star Labs based on the alien physiology of Starfire to explain their powers and how they know each other. This choice isn't necessarily bad as it keeps things simple and easy to follow, though it does feel a lot like a mash up of the Breakfast Club and X-Men Evolution which is both good and bad. The story itself is decent, focusing primarily on introducing the lives of the cast, having their status quo get shaken up by their powers, and then stumbling head first into the evil conspiracy behind it all. It's all a little too exposition heavy, which I suppose is necessary for a re-imagining such as this.
Compared to Wolfman and Perez's version this comes off as more than a little anemic as it doesn't give us the whole roster or any real meat to the story. But in and of itself as an origin story the book does its job of introducing the cast, establishing the origin of their abilities, and laying out that they have stumbled into a world of danger that they weren't ready for. The book isn't without its flaws, but overall when it was all over I asked myself if I wanted to read the next part of the story, and the answer is definitely yes.

Thanks for posting this and I sense what you are saying here and I hope that this incarnation do well and I'll check them out this Friday when I go to my Comic Book Store.
Update: They did not have this ... process of shutting down the store. Sorry No Reviews

I've generally liked the Earth One line and despite this story's flaws its probably my favorite of the bunch. Heck, I wish this were the Nu52 origin as I wasn't a fan of that take on the Titans; it wasn't terrible but I liked the tone here better.

Thank you for the review. It is very helpful. I am still not sure if I will ever read this. Maybe someday if it goes on $ale?

That's my feeling too.
Not the biggest Titans fan, but this sounded good.

I Finally got around to reading this yesterday... it was a pretty decent alternate take on the Wolfman-Perez Titans (where they are actual teens), but it really wasn't enough story for a self-contained one shot GN that may or may not ever have a future volume.
Also, I hated Raven as a Native American... I felt like they were trying to be 'realistic'.
Other than that, though it was pretty decent... I really like Gar as a super smart kid, but still with the same personality, and the Doom Patrol tie ins were intriguing. If this was a regular series, I'd definitely be in for a while, anyway.

I agree, it was very decompressed but I hope it gets a second volume as there was enough there to get me interested.
