So I recently stumbled into Phantom Force, an Image series that Kirby was involved with. I had no idea this existed, and the thought that there is a 90's polybagged comic with a (very cool) Kirby trading card amazes me. Thanks to you I now own one of these-picked up a sealed #1 at an antique mall today for q buck Yeah, a 90's Image comic, that has "antique" written all over it *rolls eyes sarcastically*. You find a six pack of Billy Beer there too?

So, to this day one of my favorite fanzines is Amazing Heroes. Great little Zine. I was ecstatic when I found issue 100 with a Kirby tribute and a great cover to match. A while back I'd gotten a software program to make collages and I made my own version of the cover all made with tiles that are actually comic book cover. and here's a blow up that hopefully you can see a little more detail

I picked up that issue when it came out and it was really my intro into the world of Kirby. In introduced me to the Fourth World stuff and pretty much all of Kirby's DC stuff for the first time and was a major factor in making me a life-long Kirby aficionado. -M

That AH #100 looks neat. Does it have a lot of Kirby art?

It does.
I wish I could give more detail but it gets too pixelated.

This came to me via my wife's facebook feed, from a site devoted to 70s Sci-Fi Art. It's by Kirby from 1969 and the site says it is entitled Metron... so this would predate the New Gods book by a little bit. I am not sure what the original source of this illo is (maybe a Kirby portfolio of some sort?). Anyone have any additional info? -M

They seem to be from an early series of sketches or character designs Kirby did while still at marvel. Here's a link to a few more images: proto-Gods (just scroll down a bit from the very top of the page).

It's odd seeing Metron, Mister Miracle, and the others in different colours, isn't it. The page says those drawings are from 1967 - which shows how long the Fourth World had been gestating in Kirby's mind before the first comics appeared in the early 70s.
Apparently Marvel has some kind of "Kirby week" tribute planned for what would have been his 99th birthday this year. I don't know what exactly they're doing, but I think the best tribute they could do would be to free up the Eternals from the MU and let any creators who genuinely want to try building on the original set-up have a crack at it.
