So we're calling light beer food now? I don't even consider it "beer".

Ha! Back when I was growing up in Oregon, the only people who would refer to Hillsboro as 'beautiful' were, maybe, people living in Hillsboro (same goes for any of the other Portland satellite cities for that matter).
Otherwise, I can't believe this conversation: bananas are fine, mayo is fine, mustard is more than fine (given all of the varieties). Don't like garlic? Are you even human? Just come right out and say you don't enjoy eating...
Granted you're mostly right, though I will never concede on the matter of bananas. But surely there is some food you don't like? Liver? Lima beans? Haggis? Light beer?

No garlic and no mustard? Bunch of savages in this town. I can't conceive of never eating garlic. Granted it doesn't smell great on your breath, but Italian & Chinese food, among others, would never be the same. And bratwursts, hot dogs, basically anything tube shaped requires mustard, even if it's only old standby yellow mustard. Scotch Eggs without a course ground brown mustard? Unthinkable. And Chicken Dijon is delicious.

And people thought I was weird for campaigning against bananas. Im disgusted by mayo, bananas and mushrooms aol equally. I'm ok with mayo, though I'd rather Miracle Whip, and I'll eat mushrooms all day long. Big fungus fan.

Got an item from Australia....it only took 4 months to arrive.
The things I do for my stamp collection.
I think it's safe to say that if any group of people would understand the collecting bug, it's this one.

When I’m World President, I’m gonna run an advertising campaign against mayo. I won’t ban it but I’ll encourage people to keep away from it… And people thought I was weird for campaigning against bananas.

I have no interest in this based on the trailers, and I really dislike this version of Riddler (from the trailers). but several of my friends who saw it Friday said it's really good and that I will like it. still think I'll wait a month and catch it on HBO Max tho. I believe in not complaining (extensively) about a movie unless I've seen it. But free on HBO Max sounds like a good price.

Do we have an official tabletop RPG/gaming thread, and would there be any interest (I tried searching but might have missed it)? I only post irregularly, so I wouldn't be a regular contributor, but I'd like to see this community's thoughts on RPGs. Is it wrong that I read "RPGs" as "Rocket Propelled Grenades"? Which, by the way, I'm generally against for public use.

Completely agree with all the comments about how servers are mistreated. This past Saturday we went to a chain restaurant for lunch and it was quickly obvious that there were only two servers, though the work was primarily being done by only one young woman. She was running constantly, but was still friendly and attentive. We got our appetizer pretty quickly, but our sandwiches took a bit longer. It was obvious that it wasn't her fault because once they came out they were still hot and fresh. We noticed though that she had a moment of panic when it appeared the table next to us had left without paying. Unknown to her the restaurant had started accepting payment online, so they had paid via cell phone. We asked if she was ok, and then heard the story. At the end we complimented her on the great service and how much she's been running around. She seemed genuinely pleased that someone took the time to notice. And of course we left a decent tip.
But the whole process needs to be revamped so that people like her don't have to be dependent on the whims of strangers for their living.

Took a big chunk of my royalties from my book today and bought a new computer system, the first time I haven't had to rely on hand-me-downs (for which I'm grateful, don't get me wrong) in ages. My tech-savvy nephew walked me through it. I got the CPU, monitor, speakers, webcam, wireless printer/scanner, wireless keyboard and mouse, a 4 terabyte external hard drive to hold my comic book library, and a 3-year warranty on the whole kit 'n' kaboodle for a hair under $2K including tax, a full thou under what I'd budgeted. Win!
Cei-U! I summon the upgrade!
Congratulations. Just love that new computer smell.

Yup as others said. Most come with SSD drives now. Drastically ridiculously ludicrously faster, but more expensive per gigabyte so you tend to buy them in smaller increments. But you can get a cheap external hard drive for next to nothing to supplement or use cloud storage, so it’s kind of win win. I would recommend you at least upgrade to 512 instead of the 256. Windows runs a lot better with a bit more headroom. Any storage beyond that unless you were getting a deal and it’s thrown in just get a cheap external. You can probably get 2 TB for 100 bucks or less on sale. I got my current laptop a couple years ago and went for the best of both worlds by getting 128 GB SSD which is strictly used for Windows, so it boots faster and runs Windows faster, and a 1 TB hard drive for storage. Looking back, I might have gone bigger on the SSD, but I've had no issues. I also have a 1TB external drive for backups, as well SD cards with 200 GB being the largest. Got it cheap ($25) a while back from Amazon.

^ we went today downtown to the Hospital so Nick could do a Covid test. tomorrow at 9am we are to be there for his Biopsy, but they've told me that I will not be allowed to stay, and that there are several coffee shops in the area I could hang out at for 5 hours. so yes, there will be a nice battle tomorrow, because I am going to tell them I'm his spouse, and his advocate, and I am NOT leaving the Hospital while he is there. period. so we shall see how this goes. then we have follow up with the Oncologist on 8/26 (one week after biopsy) and Radiologist & ENT on 8/27. so it's all getting crammed in just before I head to Atlanta for Dragon*con. Stick to your guns (so to speak). You might consider being ready to start recording video. Video of them trying to eject you from the side of your spouse would not play well on the evening news. Just saying.

spent the whole day pulling goddamn teeth, but we have a Biopsy scheduled now for Thursday at 9am. of course, the only hospital they will do it at is downtown (45 minutes from our house), and it's in the morning so "yay rush hour traffic" oh, and yeah, because they dicked around for almost 3 weeks, the Hospital is requiring Covid test starting last week. . so now we get to go on Wednesday at 11am - because we MUST do the Covid Test at the hospital where they are doing the biopsy. So two days screwed with drive into downtown. on, and the scheduler had the nerve to cheerfully offer that I might not need to get a covid test, because I can just drop him off and come back to get him later. I told the dumb bitch to pick a finger, as I'm NOT leaving him alone for 5 hours in the hospital and then "coming back later" I hate these people. That's ridiculously callous for people who work in health care to suggest leaving a loved one alone in the hospital, in what's already a stressful situation, for that long. They should be ashamed.

One very similar to this dude was caught lounging on our neighbour's property...
I was stationed in Charleston, SC, and they used to flush out gators, periodically, around the rivers and swamp areas. One got flushed out of a construction site, that had been tagged and removed before. It got onto a major roadway and was disrupting traffic. They called out a game control officer and decided to put it down and the news had footage of the GCO, with ropes on this thing (he was a bigger one, too) and using a sawed off .22 rifle, at pointblank to the head, just pumping in round after round. I was disgusted by the footage. if you are going to kill it, use something that will do it quickly. The Charleston Naval Weapon Station was upriver, on the Cooper River, from the Naval Station and they had them up there. In the Navy, we used what were known as "heaving lines." It was a thinner line of rope, with an end wrapped in a ball, which was tossed from a ship to the pier, then attached to the mooring lines to pull them across from the ship and loop them onto the pier, to moor the ship. One of the ships that went upriver, tot he Weapon Station, had a crewman who tossed a heaving ling to a floating alligator and it caught it in its mouth and a piece of it got stuck in its teeth. You could sometimes spot it when you went up there to load or offload ammunition, with the line dangling out. They had signs on the base there, warning about alligators, in certain spots. Me, I stay the hell away from them, preferably several states away. I respect an animal that hasn't needed to evolve in the past million years or so. Huh, small world. I was stationed at the Charleston Naval Weapons Station in the early 80's. The USS Canopus was stationed there, waiting for submarines to come up the river to be resupplied.
