Emphasis mine. Just saying.

You guys are missing out. They are AMAZING. Especially with a little salt and a splash of lime juice. Nope. I've tried them many different ways and none of them appealed to me in the least. Yup, that's how I feel about bananas, so I know how it feels when people tell you how great something you despise is.

And now I've learned that asymptomatic covid is a real thing. Vitalant tests all donations for covid antibodies, and the one I made a few days before my first vaccination came back positive. So at some point in the last year or so, I contracted the virus and never knew it. While I have been staying in as much as possible and faithfully masking and distancing when I do go out, it's still sobering to think that I was infected and infectious for a couple of weeks without any idea. Nor did that diligence keep me from catching it myself in the end. It's still a dice roll, I guess; you just try to shrink the odds as much as you can. I suppose I can count myself lucky that I'm one of the people who wasn't harmed by it. I truly hope I didn't harm anyone else. That's what so insidious about this virus. Even if you do all the right things, try your best to avoid spreading it or catching it, it doesn't always work. And while you evidently had a period while you were infectious, at least you were trying your best to avoid spreading it. For what it's worth, even if someone caught it from you, you didn't harm them, the virus did.

ok. . .easy peasy: 1) put eggs in saucepan, and cover with just enough cold water to cover the eggs (you dont' really want them floating, but you want them under the water) 2) put saucepan on stove and turn burner to high, and wait until rolling boil. 3) turn heat off.
4) place lid on saucepan, set time for 8 minutes, and walk away.
5) after 8 minutes, bring pan to sink, and dump hot water, refilling with cold water. . let sit in sink for 5 minutes.
then peel under slow dripping cold water.
perfect hard boiled eggs, and by peeling under cold water, the shells should basically just slide off.
Good method.
I do basically the same thing, except I do a 1-minute rolling boil and a 12-minute off-heat soak (with lid, of course). I usually boil a dozen at a time, which is why I use the 12 minute soak. The rest of my process is identical to yours. This also lets the yolks come out a little stiffer, but still not turning green. Makes better egg salad & other recipes requiring chopped eggs.
The 8-minute soak will leave the yolk slightly softer (but not runny like "soft boiled")... your method definitely makes for better deviled eggs. Depends on what you want.
I gave up on boiling eggs a while ago. The easiest thing to do, if you have a steamer, is to steam them. My steamer has two levels with little divots for six eggs to stand up in each, so it cooks a dozen at a time, about 20-30 minutes. Let them cool, done. Shells peel off pretty easily too. Made 3 dozen for Easter.

Holy Blue Bananas Batman! Warn the Anti-Banana League DE Sinclair there's a new threat in town. Vanilla ice cream seeming bananas! What dastardly villain conceived this scheme? -M Nope, they're not fooling me. They're blue? Taste like vanilla ice cream? Not buying it. I've heard countless times, "the banana bread doesn't really taste like bananas" and "try the smoothie, there's no banana in it". Still tastes nasty, not going to be fooled again.

we just got back from our 2nd shots. (Moderna) the 2nd shot actually hurt a bit - a stinging pain, and i'm already pretty sore at the injection site (but that could have just been the nurse I had - Spouse's shot was lower in the muscle and he reported no stinging). I hear from friends, that reactionary symptoms seem to hit ~17 hours after injection. . so that means ~10 am tomorrow. we shall see. but regardless? worth it, and glad we qualified and were able to get it. For what it's worth, my wife got the Moderna vaccine, and was a bit tired and run-down the next day after the 2nd shot, but that was it. I ended up with the Johnson & Johnson one & done shot, and had nothing but a somewhat sore arm. Hoping you'll have mild to no symptoms come tomorrow.

@bert , I likely got it from my older daughter, who picked it up at school. Apparently the incredibly selfish, stupid, and irresponsible parents of one of her 9th-grade classmates thought it would be OK to let their kid have a party with multiple dozens of people at it, and within 7-10 days, there were at least 20 reported cases among the kids who were there. They of course brought it to school in the interim, which is why our HS shut down ALL in-person instruction just one week after returning everyone to the building full-time from hybrid (they'd phased it in gradually, starting with the seniors and working down to freshpeople). So sorry to hear you're family has been hit. Mine has been lucky so far, and my wife and I have been able to be vaccinated (she qualified as a health care worker and I as an essential utility worker). We hope to get our daughter and her friend (whom we've unofficially adopted) can get vaccinated soon. It's infuriating that irresponsible butt-heads like these can endanger so many innocent bystanders who've been trying so hard to stay safe. But it's their freedom, or it's a hoax, or it's no more serious than the flu, or whatever other damn fool excuse they trot out.

I consider myself a nudist. I feel most comfortable when I don't have to wear clothing. But I don't live in an environment conducive to nudism. But the day will come. Then I will bear all. Oh yeah. Then the state will quake. Alaska? Cause it gets pretty chilly there.

The ban was probably a crystalizing factor that just made me reach out and ask some questions regarding the US that have been on my mind for some time about things that look odd to someone living outside America but in a (largely) culturally similar country (just as I know that some of Australia's culture looks odd to non-Aussies). In particular, this dichotomy between nudity (or partial nudity) and violence (especially gun violence). Although I am sure it was different for those living in the US (or, at least, I hope so), from the US media coverage we received, it seemed that Janet Jackson's 'wardrobe malfunction' generated at least as much outrage (if not more) than the Sandy Hook massacre. I suspect America's relationship with religion has a lot to do with it (as others have commented). Australia has had an atheist prime minister but I cannot imagine America ever having an atheist president. I hope I am not stirring anything up as this is genuine curiosity and a desire to understand, and not America-baiting. As to the media coverage, I don't doubt your observation, but it's saddening that it came off that way. From the my perspective, and those around me, the Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" was so obviously a planned stunt that it was regarded as a joke. Sandy Hook, and the numerous other school shootings, have generated far more outrage. Unfortunately those with power to do something about the shootings, do not.

Meanwhile I posted the cover to Crime Suspenstories #22 in the same thread, the infamous decapitated head cover, and no one batted an eye. It's not the prudery that bothers me as much as the cognitive dissonance between nudity and violence that exists in American culture. We need to protect children from the uncovered nude body but exposing them to horrific violence is perfectly acceptable. -M That sums it up pretty well. Have you ever heard George Carlin's "7 Words You Can't Say On TV"? There is a section on the F-bomb, substituting it in movie lines for the word "kill". Funny, but it brings home the point about violence = ok, sex = bad. Like they said in WandaVision, "For the children".

They look really good. I've got an incredible back log I'm trying to catch up on and trying to not be a comic hoarder. Honestly, I could probably read non-stop for the rest of my life and never get them all read. I thought I was the only one. I have about 6+ short boxes of unread comics waiting for me.

Happy New Year all. The change to 2021 is going to be symbolic at first, but hopefully eventually life will get back to what we considered to be normal again.

I have a somewhat unique perspective, having been on the moderator staff here. I can attest that they do the best they can in thankless jobs and sometimes being abused trying to keep the peace. I'd ask that anyone who gets a friendly warning, please take it as friendly, and as codystarbuck did, step back a moment and consider the intent. I guarantee they're just trying to keep things running smoothly and happily. Happy Holiday of your choice to all!!
