They're making the same offer again! Send an email today for a free issue! Sorry it's so late in the day, but if you see this before Saturday is over, this offer is very worthwhile: To get an idea what the magazine is about, visit www.hoganmag.com/.

I first encountered Oksner during the period when he was inking Curt Swan on Superman. Discovering his pencil work was a revelation.

My wife decided to try more movies directed by Michael Curtiz. We watched Yankee Doodle Dandy and are now watching We're No Angels.

Todd has employed my friend Tom Orzechowski as the letterer on Spawn from the beginning. The last few decades haven't been easy ones for freelance letterers, so I appreciate Todd for this.

Ted White's Captain America novel, The Great Gold Steal was much better than Otto Binder's The Avengers Battle the Earth-Wrecker. Binder's book came out first and did so poorly that the proposed line of books was cancelled and White's book got no promotion. White was supposed to write more books in the series and was pissed at Binder for years.

Won an auction for a complete set of all 4 volumes of the All Star Companion for $90. They showed up today and look to be unread and in beautiful like new condition, I'm thrilled to finally have these! You'll find a familiar name in the credits of volumes 2-4. This was one of, if not the first big project where our own Cei-U! worked closely with Roy Thomas.

My wife really liked Casablanca. The DVD had three extras: a commentary by Roger Ebert, a short about the making of the movie, and a biography of the director. Michael Curtiz. She watched each of them three times before she was ready to move on.
The next DVD in the box was Citizen Kane. She could see that it was technically well-made but found all of the characters completely unlikable. She bailed about a half-hour in. She didn't want to spend time with those people.
The last DVD in the box was Psycho. That one, she never intended to take out of the box. She knows enough about it to stay away from it.
The box went back to the library today.

Answering your question from a few pages back, "The Man from R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E." and "The Girl from R.I.V.E.R.D.A.L.E."(that's Betty) appeared in: Life with Archie 45, 47, 49 & 51-63 Archie Giant Series 143 & 144 Betty & Me 6-8 & 10 And another real obscurity from Archie - the one and only issue of Soupy Sales has a story in which Soupy portrays "Secret Agent Philo Kvetch", as seen on the cover. Man, can he kvetch!

Tom Orzechowski is known for his ability to place the balloons & captions well. That's why Chris Claremont asks for him on all his books. Tom's 340+-issue run on Spawn is the longest run by a letterer in American comics. He's also a personal and/or Facebook friend of several people on this forum, including me.

The first Charlton comic I ever had. It's so bad, I avoided Charlton for years. Blue Beetle #1, June 1964, cover by Bill Fraccio and Frank McLaughlin.

What I recall from the DC comics of the 60s was explanations like, "Superman can fly because flight is a superpower that he has."
Marvel's pseudoscience back then was equally unrealistic, but it had more verisimilitude. It felt more real, more consistent.

Some odd things rattle around in my head... here's one:
Considering that "pro" and "con" are opposites, here are some words that should exist but don't:
Procise - wordy, rambling, unfocused.
Convide - to take something away.
Prosider - to ignore or be unaware of.
Contect - to attack.
