Claudia Gray is the rock star author of the new cannon. She delivered another excellent story with this one. Lots of great moments, with a lot of great connective tissue, and some great hints at what is to come in The Last Jedi. This and Phasma came out on the same day, but I could not feel more different about them. Phasma was a chore, Leia I didn't want to see end.

I don't even know with Star Wars comics anymore: they are at Disney, so they publish at Marvel, but they also publish at IDW?

They seem to be letting IDW do kid-friendly ones... no idea why they think Marvel can't do that, but whatever. Same reason IDW does the Disney character comics for Disney rather than Marvel. IDW has distribution deals to get comics into places like toy stores where kids buy them not hardcore comics fans (who usually don't buy "kids" comics to begin with) and IDW's scale of operations allows them to be profitable with a lower sales level/print runs (which would be too small to be profitable for Marvel) so Disney makes more money form the license than they would publishing the books themselves. There are some who worry that as sales levels drop Disney will decide it is more profitable to do this with all comics and cease Marvel's operations as a publisher converting it to a content creator for licensees, but that's a discussion for another place and just wild speculation at this point. -M PS IDW also announced at NYCC they will be doing a Big Hero Six comic for Disney/Marvel, so the number of Marvel/Disney books going to IDW is expanding.

^^ meh.
I'm so underwhelmed for this. I hope it will be better than The Force Awakens, but with no Harrison Ford as Han Solo and with Princess Leia (presumably) dying, due to Carrie Fisher's own death, along with my distinct lack of interest in Mary Sue Skywalker's, err, sorry...Rey's character arc, I'm not exactly what you'd call "stoked" for this.
Still, at least it's not being written and directed by J. J. Abrams, so that's something. I've no idea whether Rian Johnson's any better or worse though.

Yeah, I was more excited for Rogue One than this...I mean I'll see it for sure but so far there hasn't been anything that has really grabbed me.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked Rogue One. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that it's the first Star Wars film since Empire that didn't overemphasize being "cute."
After seeing Force Awaken's I've had zero interesting in seeing it again, but I hold out a slim hope that the sequel will expand on the new characters. Finn was my favorite new character, but Kylo Renn struck me as being underwhelming and mopey--an EMO version of Darth Vader. Perhaps if they cast a more imposing, impressive looking actor the character might have worked...

Perhaps if they cast a more imposing, impressive looking actor the character might have worked... Agreed on the choice of the actor. I did like the idea that Kylo Ren would not be Darth Vader 2.0 but rather a troubled wannabe... we’ve had one Vader already. Any new Dark Lord of the Sith can’t fail to come across as a cheap copy... Sith aspartame instead of the real thing. A troubled young man with parental issues and a temptation to give in to his dark side is however material for a psychological thriller, not Star Wars; to make it work in a straightforward SF action film, it will need very skillful writing. The Force Awakens did not make us care overmuch for Kylo Ren’s dilemma, nor did it make us afraid of his power and motivation. He was like an overgrown teenager throwing a tantrum, and so more pathetic than tragic. I’d welcome his redemption, if it happened early in The Last Jedi. It would really be a waste if he just went all Anakin on us... been there, seen that, and it wasn’t even good the first time around.
