I'm actually thinking of ordering some of the Adventure issues from Lone Star. Is 3.5-5 a pretty decent condition on their scale? Any book of theirs that is $10.00 or more should have a scan. I've seen books graded at 3.5 that look like what you would expect, and then I've seen others the same grade that most people would call Fine or better. Whatever the reason might be for those low grades, it sure doesn't have anything to do with eye appeal. I would just advise you to compare the scans of any books you're considering. You might find something that looks better than you thought you could buy.

I'm so jealous of the reading you have ahead of you. So. Much. Reading. It'll be fun once I actually have some time to read them all! You've really gotten into this, haven't you? I'm glad you're enjoying it. I love it when my boxes of comics show up in the mail. It's like Christmas used to be when I'm tearing the boxes open to get to them. Btw, you have another package on the way now. It left yesterday.

That will probably press out. It would cost you about $20. If you want to see examples, check out herorestoration.net. All the dimples will come out, too, if there is no color break. You won't find that book in a decent grade for $20. Ooooh, ta for that....didn't know about them...wonder if they can deal with spine-curl? Yes, they can make the book flat. And CGC doesn't consider it restoration either. If you send him any, please mention me.

So! I had won an auction for an Amazing Spider-Man #120. Over-paid a little because, at the time, I did not know better. <---newbie mistake. Got the book today, and took it out of the bag, and I noticed that someone, at some point, had traced over the Hulk, probably through the bag (but not the bag I received the book in). Now, it had to be held up to the light to be seen. It was not noticeable until the light flashed on it from an angle. I took a pic, and will be returning the book for a refund. I wanted this book, so I'm not happy, but at least if I return it and get a refund, it'll kind of erase my newbie mistake. But, see? I took this pic with my camera flash. As you can see, you cannot really notice any tracings. But I took this pic without my camera flash, the glare is from my bedroom light. It's the only way you can see it, though. I am giving the seller the benefit of the doubt that he probably did not notice it if he wasn't looking at the book in direct light, as long as he gives me my refund. I know, I am quoting myself. But I wanted to bring this back up because the seller handled this, imo, AWESOMELY. He not only refunded us the cost of the book and shipping, but also told us to keep the book, and apologized for not noticing the defect. I am very happy now. That will probably press out. It would cost you about $20. If you want to see examples, check out herorestoration.net. All the dimples will come out, too, if there is no color break. You won't find that book in a decent grade for $20.

They all look like they're in pretty good shape. 137 is one of the 2nd tier keys from that era. That's Harry as the Goblin. You just need 136 to get the first half. Good stuff. Thanks! Jez told me that as well. I'm just trying to get issues when I find a decent copy for a decent price. I cannot wait to read the run. You've decided to collect the most expensive Marvel title ever. Uncanny X-Men isn't even close other than 94-142. It will be worth your while to buy nice copies, though. Try to find a pretty ASM 100 for a good deal if you want to own a beautiful cover.

Can anybody tell me if I should have enlarged the thumbnails before I saved them so they wouldn't be tiny?

I read Amazing Spider-Man #211 last night. Since I've read an entire two solo Spider-Man issues, I'm going to guess that the on-going theme for Spider-Man is trying to turn his head from those who need help, but then realizing he cannot. And if he does, he comes back to bite him in the butt? Because I have read Amazing Fantasy #15 and Amazing Spider-Man #211, and in both issues he was all, "Yeah, not my problem." and takes off, only to end up helping anyway, in some capacity, because it comes back to bite him in the butt for refusing the first time. Or maybe not "because", but it ends up happening anyway. Yes, it is a recurring theme for Peter. It's been a while since he's thought about quitting, though. It never works out anyway.

His PANTS. This is totally why I should have lived my prime in the 70s. That page is hilarious. And now I know why Spider-Man is a favorite of many. Since Spider-Man has been around for so long, he's had plenty of writers. Who do you feel wrote him best, and in which way do you like him written?<----Gosh, I've been sitting here thinking for a few, and there really is no other way to ask that question without it sounding like I'm interviewing you. Sorry. Or, wait. Is there a Spider-Man thread where I can ask folks their opinions/we can discuss this?

Denny O'Neil's Spider-Man is adorably funny. #211 has one of my favorite scenes of a befuddled Peter trying to escape a noisy neighbor by doing a little web-swinging, with predictably un-heroic results:
(SPOILER ALERT for a 35 year-old gag)

Well, you just taught me something. I wonder if I've passed on that book without knowing. I'll be looking from now on. Great find. It looks VF at least.
